A man is indicted for torture after chasing and beating a man in Palmeira's Center

The Civil Police concluded the investigation that found a crime of torture that occurred in the early hours of August 22, in the Center of Palmeira.

According to the investigation of the 40th Regional Police Station, a 59-year-old man was walking on public roads when he was persecuted by an 18-year-old. The suspect reached the victim, knocked her to the ground and assaulted her continuously for about five minutes.

According to PCPR, the purpose of the assaults was to try to extract a confession about an illicit act that the victim had committed in the past. Police said that this alleged act has no record or endorsement in police stations in the region.

The victim suffered serious injuries, with exposed arm fracture and injuries to the face. The man had to undergo three corrective surgeries and will be 90 days away from work.

The elucidation of the case was possible with the analysis of images of security cameras, which recorded the persecution and the aggressions, in addition to the testimony of the victim, of relatives of the investigated and of the interrogation of the author himself.

On the basis of the evidence, the responsible delegate indicted the young man for the crime of torture, provided for in Law No. 9.455/1997, with a qualifier for serious bodily injury.

The investigation was reported and referred to the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Judiciary for appropriate measures.
