After a start to the week marked by low temperatures, the storms on Paraná are expected to return from Wednesday (9). The forecast is from the Paraná Environmental Technology and Monitoring System (Simepar), which points to increased instability in all regions of the state in the coming days.

On Monday (7), the holiday of Brazil’s Independence, the Paraná even recorded negative temperatures. The weather stations located in the District of Horizonte, in Palmas, and in General Carneiro marked -0.1°C during the dawn.

In much of the state, the thermometers were close to 5°C early in the day. In the areas near the border with Santa Catarina, the conditions were also favorable for frost formation.

Tuesday is still cold.

For this Tuesday (8), the forecast indicates another morning of low temperatures, but with elevation of the thermometers over the afternoon.

Between the Center-South, the Metropolitan Region of Curitiba and the Coast, the maximums should remain close to 20 ° C. In the other regions of Paraná, temperatures can reach close to 25°C.

The change in weather conditions begins to occur as late as Tuesday. According to Simepar, a low pressure system over the Paraguay region, allied to the winds that transport heat and moisture towards the South of Brazil, favors the formation of isolated rain and thunderstorms.

Initially, the instability is expected to mainly affect areas between the Northwest and Central region of Paraná.

Storms return on Wednesday

From early Wednesday morning, rain is expected to reach the Paraná more comprehensively.

Throughout the day, areas of instability advance over different regions of the state. The risk of isolated storms increases especially during the afternoon.

The forecast also calls for attention to Ponta Grossa and Campos Gerais, which are among the regions that can be hit by areas of instability as they advance through Paraná.

Cold front increases instability

Between Thursday (10) and Friday (11), the trend is of even more favorable conditions for rain.

According to Simepar, a new cold front should form and advance through the South of Brazil, crossing the Paraná. The forecast points to rainfall volumes in all regions of Paraná and the possibility of storms.

The scenario takes place a few days after a weekend that has already recorded significant volumes of precipitation.

On Saturday (5), for example, Jaguariaíva, in the Campos Gerais, accumulated 36.8 millimeters of rain. Other municipalities in Paraná had even larger volumes, such as Morretes, with 56.4 mm, and Antonina, with 52 mm.

Defesa Civil sends mobile alerts

Given the possibility of thunderstorms, Simepar recommends that the population follow the weather forecast updates and the warnings issued by Defesa Civil.

Residents can receive alerts directly from their mobile phone. To register, it is necessary to send an SMS message to the number 40199, informing only the ZIP code of the residence.

The alerts can bring information about storms, heavy rains and other weather situations that offer risk to the population.

The guideline is to keep up with updates throughout the week, as the intensity and location of storms may vary as weather systems advance.
