Allies of Ratinho in the Campos Gerais will have to dialogue with Moro after Sandro Alex's defeat
Victory of the PL candidate changes the political scenario for regional leaders who supported the continuation of the current state administration

The election of Sergio Moro (PL) to the Government of Paraná opens a new stage in the relationship between the state Executive and the leaders of Campos Gerais who supported Sandro Alex (PSD), candidate backed by governador Ratinho Junior (PSD). With the result of this Sunday (4), these managers will have to forward the demands of their municipalities to a government commanded by the opponent of the project that they defended during the campaign.
Moro won the contest in the first round. According to the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), the candidate won more than half of the valid votes, guaranteeing the election without the need for a second vote.
Regional support for continuity
During the campaign, the defense of Sandro Alex among leaders of Campos Gerais was linked to the continuity of the administration of Ratinho Junior and the investments made in the region. The mobilization also went through the governor. On September 4th, Ratinho Junior brought together mayors of the associations of the municipalities of Campos Gerais and the Center-South in Curitiba, in a meeting aimed at reinforcing the support to Sandro Alex.
The candidate himself presented his candidacy as a proposal for continuity. During a visit to Ponta Grossa, on September 26, Sandro highlighted his participation in state management and related his project to the works and investments conducted by the Ratinho Junior group.
Ponta Grossa had different alignment
The positioning of the regional leaders was not uniform. In Ponta Grossa, prefeita Elizabeth Schmidt supported Moro, while Sandro Alex sought to conquer the electorate of his hometown. This division was addressed by BnT Online during a press conference with Sandro at the Commercial, Industrial and Business Association of Ponta Grossa (ACIPG). Asked about Elizabeth’s support for the opponent, the candidate focused his response on the works and investments destined for the municipality and the region.
The result opens a new stage of articulation
The political reading of the result is that the mayors who have bet on Sandro’s candidacy will need to build an interlocution with the next state administration. The defense of continuity, used as an electoral argument, gives rise to the need to present priorities and follow the commitments of the new government.
This relationship should be observed mainly in the referral of regional projects and in the responses to the demands presented by municipal administrations. The support for a defeated candidacy, by itself, does not allow to conclude that there will be damage to the municipalities. It is also necessary to distinguish the position of managers from the choice of voters.
