Argentina is the Latin American country with the largest number of eligible Brazilian voters in the 2026 elections. According to estimates from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE), more than 90,000 Brazilians live in the neighboring country, and just over 13,000 are eligible to vote with an electoral domicile in Argentina.

The data was released by the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) and show an expressive growth of the electorate abroad. In all, 918,876 Brazilians are able to vote outside the country in the first round, an increase of 31.8% compared to 2022, when 697,078 voters were registered.

Buenos Aires concentrates majority of voters

More than 11,000 of these voters are concentrated in Buenos Aires, the Argentine capital. Others will be able to exercise the right to vote at the Brazilian consulates in Córdoba, Mendoza, Puerto Iguazú and Paso de los Libres, an Argentine city located on the border with Uruguay, in Rio Grande do Sul.

The distribution of voters reflects the historical presence of Brazilians in the metropolitan region of Buenos Aires, but also points to significant communities in other provinces. Voting at these locations will follow local time, as per TSE rules for overseas.

Paraguay is second in the region

Despite having the largest Brazilian community living in Latin America, estimated at approximately 270,000 people, Paraguay occupies the second position in the number of Brazilian voters able to vote abroad, with 9,225 records.

More than half of that electorate is concentrated in Ciudad del Este, a Paraguayan city on the border with Foz do Iguaçu. Voting will also take place in Asunción, Salto del Guairá, Pedro Juan Caballero, Encarnación and Concepción.

Other Latin American countries have voters

In addition to Argentina and Paraguay, other Latin American countries also concentrate Brazilian voters. This is the case of Mexico with 3,975 voters; Bolivia with 3,627; Chile with 3,569; Uruguay with 3,175; and French Guiana with 3,127.

These figures show that the presence of Brazilians abroad is diverse and is not limited to neighboring countries. Voting in these locations is organized by the consulates and embassies, following the guidelines of the TSE.

Voting abroad has specific rules

Due to time zone differences, voting abroad follows the local time of each country. The first ballot boxes are open in New Zealand, still on Saturday (3/10), by the time of Brasilia, while the last Brazilians must vote in Canada.

Unlike voters with an electoral domicile in Brazil, those who transferred the title abroad vote exclusively for president and vice president of the Republic. This rule applies to all Brazilians who live outside the country and are eligible to vote.

The growth of the electorate abroad reflects the increase in Brazilian emigration in recent years, but may also indicate greater political engagement of the community. The TSE did not detail the reasons for the 31.8% increase in the number of registered voters.

For Brazilians living in Argentina, voting is an opportunity to participate in the decisions of the country of origin, even if they are far away. The number of voters is expected to continue to grow in the upcoming elections, following the trend of migration.
