Baby found alone in Ponta Grossa was picked up by a driver on Contorno. Police and Child Welfare Council were called to handle the case
A baby found alone in Ponta Grossa mobilized the Military Police and Guardianship Council on Wednesday afternoon. The child, only one year old, was walking unaccompanied through a street in the Contorno neighborhood when she was seen by a driver.
According to the information of the occurrence, the man was traveling through the region when he realized that the baby was alone on public roads. Faced with the risk situation, he stopped the vehicle and picked up the child, preventing her from being exposed to traffic and other dangers.
Nearby residents reportedly told the driver where the family’s residence was. He went to the indicated address, but no one answered the calls. Given the situation, the Military Police were called in to verify the case.
Another child was found in the residence.
Upon arriving at the property, the police team carried out the investigation and found another child, nine years old, sleeping on a sofa.
According to the report of the occurrence, the police also found poor hygiene conditions inside the residence. The environment was considered inadequate for housing, according to the information provided by the police.
The situation led to the activation of the Guardian Council of Ponta Grossa, responsible for monitoring cases involving children and adolescents in a situation of vulnerability or possible risk.
Mother arrived during care
While the incident involving the baby was being attended to, the children’s mother arrived at the address.
After the initial surveys, she and the others involved were referred to the police station for the Judicial Police procedures.
The case was initially dealt with by the Military Police as an occurrence related to the abandonment of incapable. It is up to the competent authorities to examine the circumstances in which the child left the residence and any responsibilities.
The Guardianship Council should monitor the situation of children and evaluate what protective measures may be necessary.
