Councilman Paulo Balansin confirmed that he is articulating his candidacy for the presidency of the Câmara Municipal de Ponta Grossa for the next two years. In an interview with the BNT Portal on Monday, the MP revealed that he is part of a group made up of 13 of the 19 councilors of the House and said he has the appointment of prefeita Elizabeth Schmidt to contest the command of the Legislative.

The movement takes place in the last months of the administration of the current president, Júlio Kuller, and involves parliamentarians of different political positions. According to Balansin, the intention is to build a consensus within the group to define the candidate who will contest the presidency, without ruling out other names interested in the position.

“We set up a group, right, which is a group practically the majority is on the side of prefeita Elizabeth. We already had a commitment when he elected Julio, so that we could continue to make the next candidate for the presidency of the House,” he said.

Group gathers 13 councilors and negotiates candidacy

During the interview, Balansin explained that the talks involve both parliamentarians aligned with the municipal administration and councilors who are not part of the government base.

Among the names mentioned in the joint are Dr. Zeca, Professor Careca, Pastor Ezequiel, Júlio Kuller, Paulo Balansin, Divo, Josi Kanto, Ricardo Zampieri, Tecio dos Animais, Geraldo Stocco, Léo Farmacêutico, Florenal and Maurício Silva.

Despite the formation of the group, Balansin stressed that his candidacy is not yet defined and that other councilors have also shown interest in the presidency.

“It’s not easy, right, because it has 19 councilors and practically all 19 want to be candidates. So for you to become aware of it is not easy. We have this group, we are talking, we are in 13 councilors in this group,” he said.

The parliamentarian stressed that the composition overcomes ideological differences and that the objective is to reach an understanding on the succession in the House.

“There in the House is not right, it is not left. They try to see what's best for the House. So I think at the moment this group of ours will decide between those names there, there are one or two more who want to be candidates as well,” he explained.

Balansin claims to have Elizabeth Schmidt indication

One of the main points of the interview was the relationship between the future Presidency of the City Council and the Municipal Executive. Balansin said that the councilors of the government base had an important participation in the votes on projects submitted by the City Council during the first two years of the current legislature.

He said some proposals required difficult decisions from parliamentarians, especially in situations where the measures did not get the approval of the entire population.

“These first two years we gave a very great sustainability to the mayor. The difficult projects that we had to vote for, so not everyone is happy with the population,” he said.

Afterwards, the councilman stated that there is a relationship of trust between the mayor and the parliamentarians of her base, in addition to declaring that he received the nomination of Elizabeth Schmidt for the presidency.

“The mayor is a person so we have a lot of confidence in her as she has in us, so much so that we have her nomination to be the new mayor,” he revealed.

Although he mentioned the support of the head of the Executive, Balansin stressed that the definition of the candidate will depend on the negotiations between the members of the group.

If elected, the councilor intends to maintain the dialogue with the municipal administration, even in situations of divergence on projects referred to the Legislative.

“It’s going to be a clean, clear discussion and always thinking about what is best. So, there are projects that we who are in the situation are not easy to vote for because it does not please everyone in the population,” he said.

Election may be early for November

Another information presented by Balansin was the possibility of early election of the Board of Directors of Câmara Municipal.

The vote is currently scheduled for December 15, but the parliamentarian revealed that there is a discussion to hold the election in November.

“It’s supposed to be December 15, but it can be anticipated. We are talking, maybe we can anticipate it for the month of November. But everything within a legality, the juridical Chamber is already studying,” he explained.

The possible change will depend on the legal analysis and the procedures necessary to ensure the regularity of the election.

The choice of the new Board of Directors will define who will be responsible for conducting legislative work during the last two years of the current municipal mandate.

He has been in the House for ten years and wants to take office.

With a ten-year trajectory in the Ponta Grossa legislature, Paulo Balansin stated that the experience accumulated during different administrations of the House can contribute to an eventual management at the head of the House.

The councilor highlighted that he has followed the work of several presidents and that he intends to take advantage of positive experiences from previous managements.

“I’ve been there for 10 years, I’ve gone through several presidents, so we always try to get what’s best for each one, what’s good, what’s been done well, and always thinking about the population of Ponta Grossa,” he said.

Asked about the continuity of initiatives that bring the Legislative closer to the communities, Balansin showed willingness to discuss the maintenance of these actions, but stressed that the decisions would be taken collectively.

“It is not me who decides, maybe if I am the president we will have a decision always together with the peers who elected us,” he said.

Support for the Worker and the basic categories

In addition to the political articulation, Balansin also addressed his performance in the Ponta Grossa sport, especially in support of the Operário Ferroviário base categories.

The lawmaker, who acts as director of the club's base, said he allocates part of his tax amendments to assist in the travel costs of young athletes.

According to him, the initiative counts on the collaboration of other councilors and contributes to maintain the activities of the training categories.

“I, as a councillor, every year, for 5 years, 6 years, that I give a part of my tax amendment to help the basic categories to travel, as there are other councillors who also help us,” he reported.

Balansin also highlighted the importance of the Worker for the sporting identity of the municipality and said that the work developed in the grassroots categories serves dozens of young people, including athletes from other cities.

During the interview, he also invited the population to follow the confrontation between Operário and Flamengo for the Copa do Brasil U-20, on Tuesday (27), at Estádio Germano Krüger. The entrance will be through the donation of a kilo of non-perishable food, destined to charitable institutions.

Balansin wants to end legislative trajectory with presidency

At the end of the interview, the councilman stated that assuming the presidency of the House would be a personal accomplishment after a decade of parliamentary activity.

Even showing interest in the position, he stressed that he will respect the decision of the members of the political group that participates in the negotiations.

“Since I entered the House, I never thought of being president, but now you have this opportunity, and I want to correspond already with what I corresponded with the 10 years that I am a councilman, and now end up with the golden key being president,” he said.

Balansin also stated that he intends to maintain a respectful relationship with the population, with the other councilors and with prefeita Elizabeth Schmidt.

The definition of the group candidate and the possible anticipation of the election are the next points of the political articulations in the Chamber of Ponta Grossa. So far, according to the councillor’s statements, there is no single formally defined candidacy among the 13 parliamentarians mentioned.
