Series B entered that moment when the calculator no longer accepts fantasy. Eight games left for the Worker to finish the championship. There are 24 points still available before the start of the 31st round, but with each game played that count decreases. Whoever loses points now will not have as many opportunities to regain them.

And that’s exactly why the round that starts this Thursday deserves so much attention.

At the top, some clubs still appear mathematically in the dispute, but the reality of the field begins to separate who can really come from who just holds a distant hope. For me, Goiás is in this second group. It has 42 points, occupies the 11th position and needs to make a sequence practically perfect to return to the front cake.

The problem is that he faces the Novorizontino, fourth placed, with 51 points, away from home.

If Novorizontino wins, it goes to 54 points and definitely enters the discussion of the first positions. For Goiás, a defeat could mean the end of almost any greater expectation in Serie B.

Mathematics no longer forgives

Another important confrontation puts Athletic and Sport face to face.

Sport starts the round with 44 points and needs to win to keep breathing. A victory would bring the Pernambuco team to 47 points, bringing it closer to the Worker, who totals 48.

But there is no more room to count using points that are already behind.

Finished a round? The three points of that game are over. For those who enter the field in this round, after the 90 minutes there will be no more 24 points available. There will be 21.

It seems obvious, but in this final straight there is still a lot of projection made as if the championship had endless rounds.

You don't.

The Serie B has come to the point where each lost point weighs twice: in the table and in the number of opportunities remaining.

Worker faces one of the toughest games of the round

And then we come to what interests the Campos Gerais.

The Operário Ferroviário enters the field this Friday in front of the Juventude, at Alfredo Jaconi, in Caxias do Sul.

It's a big game.

The Youth appears as a vice-leader, with 53 points. The Ghost is 48. If he wins away from home, the Worker reaches 51 points and is only two behind his opponent.

It is this kind of confrontation that can completely change the design of a final straight.

It does not mean that a win automatically places the Worker on Série A. Much less that a defeat ends it all. But it means that there are matches worth more than three points for the direct impact on opponents who are in the same dispute.

This is one of them.

Rain can change the game

There is another important component: climate.

The expectation presented in the commentary is of rain in the South, which can leave the lawn wet and slippery in Caxias do Sul.

That changes the game.

It changes support, requires attention with the choice of locks, accelerates the ball in certain situations and can harm teams trying to build plays with greater pass exchange.

And we are talking about two organized teams.

The Youth arrives with one of the strongest defensive structures of the competition, while the Worker will need to present a very high level of performance to leave Caxias do Sul with three points.

There is no more small game

From now on, virtually every game has a direct consequence.

There are clubs fighting over access. Others trying to escape the fall. And some who need to win simply to continue believing.

That's how a tight B series gets to the last eight rounds.

The worker is in the middle of this story.

With 48 points, he still has a championship ahead and a huge opportunity in this round: to face away from home a team that is five points above.

You don't have to invent account.

You don't have to turn hope into math.

You need to play.

Because at this point in the Serie B, 24 points seem like a lot.

But eight rounds go by very fast.
