Can you drink before voting? See the rule for elections in Paraná
State will not have Electoral Dry Law in the first round, scheduled for this Sunday (4)

Those who intend to consume alcoholic beverages before the elections in the Paraná will not be subject to a specific state ban for the lawsuit. The state will not have a dry electoral law in the first round of 2026, on Sunday (4), keeping the sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages allowed.
The absence of state restrictions covers the voting period, including in Ponta Grossa and Campos Gerais. This means that the beverage trade will not need to be suspended solely because of the elections.
Can you drink before voting for Paraná?
According to the information released on the state decision, there will be no general election ban on the consumption of alcoholic beverages before the vote or during the election Sunday. The definition involves the Public Security Secretariat of the Paraná and the Regional Electoral Court of the Paraná.
However, the measure does not change the other safety standards. The traffic rules remain in force, as well as the police action in situations of disturbance of public order.
Why do some states prohibit drinking in elections?
The rule on alcoholic beverages is not the same throughout Brazil. According to the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), in the General Elections of 2026, each regional electoral court, in a joint decision with the respective Secretariat of Public Security, must define the conditions for sale and consumption on the day of the election.
Therefore, voters who will be in another state need to observe the determination of that location. A restriction adopted outside of the Paraná may set specific times and reach both commercial and public spaces.
Traffic rules still apply
The absence of an Electoral Dry Law does not represent driving authorization after consuming alcohol. The transit legislation continues to be applied during the voting weekend. Rules for the preservation of public order also remain valid.
The first round of the 2026 elections will be held on October 4. The electors will elect representatives for the Presidency of the Republic, state governments, Senate, Chamber of Deputies and legislative assemblies.
