The City of Castro decreed an Emergency Situation because of the damage caused by the heavy rains that hit the municipality. Decree No. 670/2026 will be published in the Official Gazette on Monday (14) and will have a validity of 180 days, allowing the public power to accelerate contracts and actions aimed at attending to affected communities.

The most critical situation is concentrated mainly in the interior of the municipality, where several rural roads present blockades and difficulties of circulation. Floods, flashes, collapses and damage to urban and rural infrastructure were also recorded.

With the declaration of emergency, the Municipal Administration now has legal mechanisms to carry out emergency contracts, including the rental of machinery and equipment for the clearance and recovery of roads.

The decree also allows the mobilization of municipal bodies, emergency teams and volunteers to act in the affected regions.

Decree allows for faster response

According to the City Council, the measure gives administrative and legal backing to the actions defined by the Crisis Room of Defesa Civil.

Among the possibilities foreseen are the entry of emergency agents into private properties when there is a need for rescue, evacuation or attendance to the population, in addition to the adoption of more agile procedures for recovery of damaged infrastructure.

Another decree, of no 669/2026, regulates measures related to Education and Health as long as the impacts caused by rains persist.

Classes are suspended in Castro

In the rural area, classrooms are suspended in 15 units of the Municipal Education Network:

Escola Municipal José Nery Carneiro de Napoli, in Socavão; CMEI Pequeno Reino, in Socavão; Escola Municipal de Guararema; Escola Municipal Santo Lazarini da Silva, in Abapaã; Escola Municipal do Campo Terra Nova; Escola Municipal do Campo São Sebastião; Escola Municipal de Estação do Tronco; CMEI Turma do Pererê, in Tronco; Escola Municipal do Campo do Campo; Escola Municipal do Campo

In the urban area, classes also continue to be preventively suspended at the Escola Municipal Professor Bernardo Litzinger, in Parque Lacustre, due to the floods recorded in the surroundings and the risks to the access of students and professionals.

All routes and modalities of municipal school transport remain suspended, including those intended for students of the State Education Network.

UBSs have reorganised care

The Basic Health Units located in Tronco, Socavão and Abapã keep the services concentrated exclusively in their main offices.

The services of UBS Guararema remain temporarily suspended. During this period, the UBS Bom Jesus team will be responsible for assisting residents of the region.

Competition and walk are still maintained

Despite the Emergency Situation, the City Council informed that, so far, the evidence of the Public Health Competition and the Walk in the Nature of the Colony Terra Nova, scheduled for Sunday (20), are kept.

Weather conditions and access to the affected regions are still assessed by municipal teams. If there is a need for postponement or cancellation, the City Council informed that it will release new communications through the official channels.
