CNJ launches operation in chamber of judge linked to Nunes Marques
Newton Ramos was mentioned in conversations found on Vorcaro's cell phone
The National Council of Justice (CNJ) conducted an operation on Thursday (24) in the office of the Minister of Justice Newton Ramos, of the Federal Regional Court (TRF) of the 1st Region, based in Brasilia.
The magistrate became a target of investigation by the CNJ after being quoted in conversations found on the cellphone of the former banker Daniel Vorcaro.
The searches were determined by the national justice officer, Benedito Gonçalves, and carried out by the Federal Police (PF).
The operation occurred one day after the CNJ ordered the cancellation of precautionary measures of sugar-alcohol plants that traded the credits with the Banco Master. The bonds are valued at R$ 4.7 billion.
The measure was motivated by an action by the Advocacia General da União (AGU) to cancel decisions of the TRF1 that determined the deposit of the value of 16 precautionaries in a judicial account, without the transit in judgment of the cases that recognized the debt of the Union.
The case of the Master’s billionaire precariats came to light after a report by Portal Metrópoles revealed the existence of a contract of R$ 427 million between the Master and the office of lawyer Camilla Ramos, wife of the bailiff Newton Ramos. The amount would be paid in case of success in the causes related to the sugar alcohol sector.
PF’s access to Vorcaro’s cell phone also revealed that advisers of the former banker cited that the lawyer and the bailiff would be from ‘Turma do KN’, in reference to Minister Nunes Marques, of Supremo Tribunal Federal (STF).
Defenses
In a statement, Newton Ramos said he remains in office and that he considers the correction procedure of the CNJ “natural and regular”.
Yesterday (23), the office Queiroga, Vieira, Queiroz e Ramos, which has Camila Ramos as partner, declared that it has a formal contract with the Master to act in the processes that involve precautionary, but did not receive any payment "as a pro-labor or success".
Nunes Marques stated that he never exchanged messages with Vorcaro nor authorized anyone to speak on his behalf.
