One man died in a confrontation with the Military Police on Thursday, in Telêmaco Borba, after pointing a firearm at the police and shooting at the team. Three military police officers were injured during the incident.

According to a note released by the 26th Military Police Battalion, the teams were activated by the Military Police Operations Center (COPOM) to respond to an occurrence of domestic violence, with information of gunfire in a residence. The drive started from a neighbor, who reported hearing shots coming from the property, followed by calls for help from a woman who left the site running on public roads.

The victim of domestic violence has been treated and is under the care of the competent authorities.

Upon arriving at the address, the team identified circumstances that indicated the practice of a crime in flagrante and risk to the physical integrity of people who could be inside the residence. Faced with the urgency, the police identified themselves as Military Police and entered the property by an open access to verify the situation.

Inside the building, a man pointed a firearm at the police. Even after repeated determinations to drop the weapon, he kept the gun pointed and there were gunshots. In the action, one police officer was shot in the face and another suffered a shrapnel wound in the supercilia.

The policeman injured by the shooting received emergency care, had the bleeding controlled and was stabilized, being transferred to a hospital unit in Ponta Grossa for continuity of specialized care. The second officer was treated in the Pronto Atendimento de Telêmaco Borba Unit and presented a mild injury, without active bleeding and without impairment of vision. Both are out of danger.

The man remained inside the property, possibly armed. The area was contained and received police reinforcement. Before any new approach, the police made several attempts to verbalize him to present himself, without response. As an alternative of lesser offensive potential, tear gas devices were used, also without adhesion.

As they progressed along the terrain, police officers heard noises of movement in the woods and were again greeted with gunfire, which struck the team’s ballistic shield and injured a third police officer by shrapnel in the thigh, with minor injuries.

In the face of ongoing armed aggression and the imminent threat to the physical integrity of the team, the police responded with gunfire. The man was shot and, after the cessation of the threat, the Mobile Emergency Service (SAMU) was activated. The medical team found the death on the spot.

After controlling the situation, the teams isolated the area for the preservation of the site and the traces. The gun found next to the man was not handled, removed or removed by military police. There were no searches inside the residence before the completion of the work of the Scientific Police.

Only after the forensic team released the site, and with authorization, search was carried out that located three rifles - among them one of calibre 28, with apparently suppressed numbering, pointed as the weapon used against the teams -, 14 cartridges intact and 2 cartridges deflated of calibre 28, in addition to supplies for reloading ammunition. All the material was sent by the Scientific Police.

The Civil Police and the Scientific Police were called and adopted the measures of their attributions. The Military Police of Paraná has established the appropriate administrative procedures to ascertain the circumstances of the occurrence and remains at the disposal of the control bodies and the Justice.
