Copel invests R$ 23.5 million in Reserva, in the Campos Gerais, to build a third power supply for the municipality. The new distribution line will be 70.5 kilometers long, connecting the Tibagi substation to the urban network of Reserva.

According to the company, 43 kilometers of the new circuit have already been built, the equivalent of approximately 61% of the entire work. The structure is expected to be completed and delivered by December 2026.

The investment seeks to increase the safety and stability of the city’s electrical system, especially in the face of severe weather events recorded in recent months in the Campos Gerais.

New line reinforces electrical system

Currently, the substation responsible for supplying the Reserve has two power supplies. The system is designed so that in case of a fault on one of the lines, the other can take over the power supply.

However, according to Copel, recent storms demonstrated the need to increase the redundancy of the network and create a third alternative to supply the municipality.

According to Copel’s commercial director, Julio Omori, the new structure will be able to serve the entire city.

“We have already carried out preventive maintenance actions, some interconnection works and we are providing what we understand to be the main investment necessary for an improvement of the energy quality in the municipality. The construction of this new circuit will be a new power source for 100% Reserve,” he says.

Omori also highlights the logistical complexity of the project, especially the extension of the network between Tibagi and Reserva. So far, 43 of the 70.5 kilometers planned have already been executed.

Storms damaged network in Reserve

The need to strengthen the electrical system gained even more importance after the strong storms recorded at the end of September.

Intense rains and winds caused trees to fall on poles and cables, reaching the two energy connections existing in the municipality.

In order to recover the power grid of Reserva, Copel reported that it mobilized teams in an emergency regime and carried out 95 maintenance services considered heavy or complex.

During the work, 31 poles were replaced, interventions were carried out on 21 transformers and 75 points were reconstructed where there was cable breakage.

Copel Records Seven Temporals on the Paraná

The problems recorded in Reserve are part of a sequence of severe weather events that have affected different regions of Paraná.

Between August 30 and October 14, Copel accounted for seven seasons in the state. At the time of greatest mobilization, on September 28, 1,187 teams worked simultaneously to recover affected structures.

Throughout the seven events, it was necessary to replace 3,676 damaged poles and rebuild seven high-voltage towers that were knocked down.

“We are very attentive to the big storms,” says Julio Omori. According to him, the intensification of these phenomena requires investments to make the electrical system more resistant.

“It is one of the biggest weather phenomena we are facing and, therefore, this power supply will be critical for Reserva,” he adds.

Preventive actions continue in the municipality

In addition to the construction of the new line, Copel claims to maintain dialogue with the Prefecture of Reservation since the beginning of the year to develop prevention measures and improve care in both urban and rural areas.

Among the actions are the management of vegetation near the electrical grid, with pruning and brushing, in addition to the identification of points that need correction.

The company also works on the modernization of equipment of the substation and on the reinforcement of the teams responsible for the field services.

Copel expects that the combination of these improvements with the entry into operation of the third power supply will increase the stability of the power supply in Reserva from December.
