Copel mobilizes 3,000 electricians after severe storms in Paraná
Severe storms in Paraná downed 2,000 poles, over 100 km of lines and six towers. Copel mobilized 3,000 electricians to restore the network.

The storms in the Paraná recorded in the last few weeks have caused significant damage to the electricity grid in different regions of the state. According to data released by Copel, about 2,000 poles, more than 100 kilometers of lines and six high-voltage towers were knocked down during severe weather events.
According to the information presented by the company, the Paraná faced four strong storms in about a month. The episodes were accompanied by winds that exceeded 100 km/h, hailfall, tornadoes and the felling of thousands of trees.
The volume of rain also attracted attention. According to the data released by the company, September was the rainiest month in almost three decades, a scenario that contributed to widen the damage caused by weather events.
Electrical grid suffered damage in different regions
The passage of time on the Paraná directly affected structures responsible for the supply of electrical power. In addition to the approximately 2,000 damaged poles, the company reported the destruction of more than 100 kilometers of distribution lines and the fall of six towers used in the high-voltage system.
At various points, the teams had to rebuild entire stretches of the network before supply could be restored.
According to Copel, about 3,000 electricians have been mobilized to attend to the occurrences and work on the recovery of the electrical system.
“We will work until we try to restore the whole system,” one of the workers said during the reconstruction activities presented by the company.
Teams working on network recomposition
The services include replacing poles, rebuilding networks, removing damaged structures and preparing the hit points so that the power supply can be resumed safely.
In rural areas, teams were also directed to the recovery of networks responsible for the care of farmers and properties away from urban centers.
“Two teams here are committed to recomposing, restoring energy for rural farmers,” another professional reported during the work.
Copel claims to keep teams mobilized 24 hours a day, seven days a week, especially in the periods after the most intense storms.
Recovery occurs after a sequence of severe events
Each new occurrence requires an assessment of the damage before interventions begin. In situations of greater destruction, recomposition may depend on the installation of new poles, reconstruction of network kilometers and repairs to transmission structures.
The company maintains continuous operation to recover the affected points and restore the supply to consumers.
With 72 years of experience in the state, Copel states that the work of rebuilding the infrastructure after climate events integrates the emergency actions carried out by the teams throughout the Paraná.
The guidance in situations of falling power poles or cables is to avoid any approach of the damaged network and immediately communicate to the dealership responsible for the service.
