The formation of an extratropical cyclone near the coast of the Southern Region should favor the entry of cold air in Ponta Grossa and Campos Gerais. The system is scheduled to be organized between Friday (16) and Saturday (17), while the rain tends to gradually lose strength in the Paraná, according to information from the National Meteorological Institute (Inmet) and Simepar.

For Ponta Grossa, the Simepar forecast consulted on Friday points to a 98% probability of rainfall, with an estimated cumulative of 2.3 millimeters. Wind gusts can reach 35 km/h. The hourly forecast indicates the possibility of rainfall between late morning and afternoon.

Campos Gerais can still have isolated hits

According to Simepar, the reduction of instability occurs with the displacement of a frontal system through the ocean and the arrival of a colder and drier air mass. Despite this trend, the Campos Gerais can still record isolated thunderstorms in this transition.

The body also points to the possibility of storms located in the region, with less intensity compared to the beginning of the week. These episodes can cause punctually intense rain and gusts of wind. The advance of cold air should lower temperatures and increase the feeling of cold.

Weekend with rain reduction in Ponta Grossa

In the municipal forecast consulted, Simepar indicates absence of rain in Ponta Grossa on Saturday (17) and Sunday (18). The expected gusts are up to 32 km/h on Saturday and 41 km/h on Sunday. The data represent the forecast for the city and may change in the next updates.

According to Inmet, the circulation of the cyclone should transport cold air to the center-south of Brazil. The most intense coastal winds associated with the phenomenon are mainly predicted for the coast of Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina.

Ponta Grossa has already exceeded the average rainfall of October

The change in time happens after a rainy start of the month. According to the Simepar survey, Ponta Grossa accumulated 189.2 millimeters in the first 12 days of October, exceeding the historical average of 167.1 millimeters for the entire month.

In the Campos Gerais, Telêmaco Borba also exceeded the monthly reference: there were 214.4 millimeters in the period, compared to an average of 165.9 millimeters. The figures show the expressive volume of rain recorded in the region before the arrival of the driest air.
