Diocese of Ponta Grossa laments death of priest and announces masses in his intention
Father Mário Casassa, who marked the history of the Catholic community of Ponta Grossa, died on Thursday (1st), at the age of 81, in Brescia, Italy. The Diocese of Ponta Grossa confirmed the death in a note of regret and announced Masses in his intention in the Parish Nossa Senhora of Health.
Member of the Congregation of São João Batista Piamarta, the priest dedicated more than five decades to the priestly ministry and to the Piamartina mission. In Ponta Grossa, he carried out pastoral work in the parish and in the John XXIII Institute, accompanying families, celebrating sacraments and participating in the religious life of the community.
The action left its mark on the parish
The history of the Parish Nossa Senhora of Health, published on the website of the Diocese, records the presence of Father Mário between 2011 and 2018. The institution highlights his dedication to the study of Sacred Scripture and informs that he was the idealizer of the reform of the facade of the church, leaving also a contribution to the structure of the temple.
In the note released on Thursday, the Diocese stressed that the religious has marked the lives of many faithful through evangelization and service to the community. The institution also expressed solidarity with the congregation, family, friends and people who lived with the priest.

“May the Lord, to whom Father Mario consecrated his life in the priesthood and in the religious life, welcome him in his peace,” the message says.
Masses will be celebrated this Sunday
In Ponta Grossa, the celebrations in intention of Father Mário will be held this Sunday, October 4, in the Parish Nossa Senhora of Health. The Diocese has confirmed three schedules:

7 pm
The Masses will allow the local community to gather in prayer and pay homage to the priest who participated in the parish’s trajectory. The note from the Diocese does not inform the cause of death nor does it give details about funeral and burial in Italy.
