Dollar soars and reaches R$ 5.60 after Lula's victory; Ibovespa future plummets
First trades of this Monday (26) recorded strong exchange rate fluctuations and nearly 15% drop in the future contract of the index

The dollar soared at the opening of the market on Monday (26), the first day after the victory of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in the presidential elections. According to information published by CNN Brazil, the U.S. currency was traded at R$ 5.60 at 9:30 a.m., up 12.52%.
The move also hit the stock market. At 09:05, the futures contract of Ibovespa with maturity in December 2026, identified by the code INDZ26, fell 14.84%, to 177,215 points. The fall occurred before the opening of the shares in the spot market, scheduled for 10am.
Therefore, the percentage recorded at that time corresponded to the future Ibovespa, and not to the performance of the index in sight during the trading.
B3 wide oscillation limit
Amid volatility, B3 extended the lower limits of daily swing of Ibovespa futures contracts for all maturities. Initially, the fall limit had been set at 15%. Subsequently, it was expanded to 20%. Futures interest also showed upwards in the first deals.
The rate of the Interfinancial Deposit (ID) contract with maturity in January 2027 reached 14%, an increase of 54 basis points, equivalent to 0.54 percentage point. The numbers represent specific moments of market opening and are subject to change throughout the day. They do not match Monday’s closing prices.
