Ponta Grossa driver injured in bus and truck collision on Rodovia Castello Branco in Itu (SP)
A Ponta Grossa bus driver was injured in an accident involving a collective and a wagon early on Tuesday (8), on the Castello Branco Highway (SP-280), in Itu, inside São Paulo. According to information obtained by the BnT Online, the driver suffered serious injuries, but without risk of life, and received medical attention at the site of the occurrence.
The collision occurred at km 71 of the highway, on the track direction capital of São Paulo. According to initial information, the bus hit the back of a wagon carrying a load of sugar. With the impact, part of the product ended up falling on the track.
The bus driver, a resident of Ponta Grossa, was one of the victims treated after the accident. Despite the seriousness of the injuries, he is not at risk of death.
In all, eight people were injured in the crash. One of them was referred in a severe state to a Pronto Atendimento Unit (UPA). Four other victims suffered moderate injuries and were taken to health facilities in Sorocaba, including the Sorocaba Hospital Complex (CHS) and UPA Eden.
Three people had only abrasions and received assistance from the rescuers still at the site. Eighteen occupants of the vehicles involved were not injured.
According to the concessionaire Motiva Sorocabana, responsible for the administration of the Castello Branco Highway, the weather conditions were good at the time of the collision. The cause of the accident will still be investigated by the authorities.
After the crash, teams worked on signalling the area, attending the victims and cleaning the runway due to the scattered cargo. Until the last update, the sidewalk remained forbidden, but there was no record of congestion or large impacts on the flow of vehicles.
The case gained regional repercussion due to the involvement of the bus driver of Ponta Grossa. The BnT Online continues to track new information on the health status of the victim and the details of the investigation into the causes of the accident.
