The electoral propaganda on the streets will end at 10 pm this Saturday (3), at Brasília time, on the eve of the first round of the general elections of 2026.

According to the electoral calendar, this is the last day of the electoral campaign for distribution of graphic material (such as saints and stickers), for carrying out marches, carriages and circulation of sound cars and use of loudspeakers and sound amplifiers, with jingles and campaign messages.

The publication of new content or the promotion of content on internet platforms is still prohibited.

On Thursday, the free election propaganda on radio and television for the first day of the elections ended.

The rules are provided for in the Elections Law and in the resolution of the Superior Electoral Court that regulates electoral propaganda and has the objective of ensuring tranquility to the electorate before the vote.

Individual protests and prohibitions

On Sunday (4), voters and candidates can express political preference in an individual and silent way, such as with the use of shirts, brooches, stickers and flags.

However, it is not allowed to promote crowds, address voters, distribute campaign material or use vehicles to publicize candidates on election day.

The ballot box is an electoral crime characterized by the attempt to convince, influence or arrange voters to vote or to stop voting in a certain candidacy or party on election day.

Those who commit the infraction are subject to detention from six months to one year, which can be replaced by the provision of services to the community for the same period, in addition to a fine of R$ 5,320.50 to R$ 15,961.50.

The punishment can reach any other person who practices the conduct, including electoral cables, representatives of parties and federations, voters and candidates.

At the time of voting, it is also forbidden for the citizen to use a mobile phone, glasses with integrated camera or any electronic equipment in the voting booth. The mobile phone can be used only before, for the identification of the voter through the e-Title application (provided that it shows the photo of the voter) or by the presentation of other official documents in digital format, displayed in their respective official applications. After the conference of the data by the mesiers, the device must be left in the place indicated by the receiving table and will be returned after the vote has been completed.

First round

In the first round of the 2026 elections, voters will elect President of the Republic, governors, senators, federal deputies, state deputies and district deputies. For the positions of President of the Republic and Governor, there may be a second round if no nomination obtains more than half of the valid votes (excluding blank votes and null votes).

In the localities where there is a second round, the vote will take place on October 25.
