The death of the former dean represents a loss for the history of higher education in the Campos Gerais, especially for the trajectory built over decades in the UEPG.

Ewaldo Podolan was the fourth dean of UEPG

Ewaldo Podolan was at the head of the State University of Ponta Grossa from 6 April 1983 to 6 April 1987, during which time he served as the fourth dean of the institution.

He was appointed by the then governor of the Paraná, José Richa, through State Decree No. 226 of 29 March 1983.

Its administration was marked by the encouragement to scientific research and the strengthening of university extension activities, seeking to expand the relationship between the university and the Ponta Grossa and Campos Gerais community.

During its management, there were also investments and initiatives aimed at the university structure and the expansion of academic activities.

Trajectory in education and law

Ewaldo Podolan, a native of Ivaí, Paraná, built much of his professional career in Ponta Grossa, the city where he lived in 1951.

Graduated in Law from the then State Faculty of Law of Ponta Grossa, in 1965, he also specialized in Civil Procedural Law by the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo (PUC-SP).

His career as a teacher at UEPG began in March 1971, when he began teaching Civil Procedural Law.

In addition to academic activities, Podolan has developed a career in law, accumulating experience in the legal area and contributing to the training of legal professionals.

In 1989, he received the title of cidadão honorário de Ponta Grossa, recognition for his connection and contribution to the city.

Legacy of Ewaldo Podolan at university

Among the marks of his passage through the rectory is the strengthening of university extension projects, bringing the knowledge produced in the institution closer to the needs of the population.

The former rector’s performance was also recognized by UEPG through a tribute linked to the awarding of extension activities, with the creation of the Ewaldo Podolan Trophy.

Its trajectory remains associated with the consolidation of the university as an institution of teaching, research and extension, with direct influence on the educational and social development of Ponta Grossa and the region of Campos Gerais.
