Family from PG holds charity raffle to cover exams for boy with epilepsy

The family of little Miguel of Ponta Grossa is promoting a solidarity raffle to help finance consultations, examinations and medical follow-up of the boy, diagnosed with epilepsy. The mobilization seeks to gather resources for a new stage of research on possible absence crises identified during the therapeutic follow-up.

According to the family, Miguel faced health problems in the first months of his life. At three months, he suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest related to a picture of bronchitis. At the age of two, she began to have seizures, which were initially associated with fever.

The episodes reoccurred when Miguel was three years old, which led the family to initiate a more thorough medical investigation. During this process, an injury attributed to the cardiorespiratory arrest suffered while still a baby, in addition to the diagnosis of epilepsy, was identified.

Family Reports Difficulty Getting Treatments

According to the mother, the family did not have access to the necessary therapies by the Unified Health System (SUS) and began to pay for private care, including follow-up with a speech therapist.

It was during the speech therapy sessions that professionals noticed signs that may indicate absence seizures, a type of epileptic episode that can cause short periods of disconnection or momentary loss of consciousness.

Because of this new suspicion, Miguel will have to undergo specialized consultations and examinations again to evaluate the condition and define the next steps of treatment.

“We will start all over again. We are doing a raffle to help with the appointments, because he will need to do new tests to see if he is really having these seizures. The exams are not cheap,” the family reports.

To help with expenses, the family organized a solidarity raffle with numbers sold for R $ 10.

Among the prizes are professional makeup, lighthouse polishing, car wash with sealant and a R$ 300 voucher.

The campaign reinforces that all the money raised will be used to help Miguel have access to the necessary consultations, examinations and treatment.
