Flávio Bolsonaro wins in Japan in the 2026 Elections and opens a wide lead over Lula in the voting of Brazilian citizens living in the country.

Flávio Bolsonaro wins in Japan in the vote of Brazilians for president on Sunday (4), during the 2026 elections. The PL candidate opened up a wide advantage over Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) in the ballot papers released in the Asian country.
A more recent partial of the results available this afternoon points to Flávio Bolsonaro with 25,109 votes, against Lula's 5,567 votes in Japan. The numbers represent the ballot papers made available before the official totalization of the election by the Superior Electoral Court (TSE).
Japan has one of the largest Brazilian voters abroad
The performance of the candidates in Japan draws attention to the size of the Brazilian electoral college in the country. Data released by TSE before the elections pointed to more than 88,000 Brazilians able to vote in Japan, placing the country behind only Estados Unidos and Portugal among the largest Brazilian electorate abroad.
In May 2026, the TSE registered 88,344 Brazilian voters in Japan. Estados Unidos appeared in the first position, with 264,702, while Portugal had 134,325 voters. The three countries concentrated more than half of the Brazilian electorate residing outside Brazil.
In the 2026 elections, 918,876 Brazilians are able to vote abroad, distributed by 186 cities from 134 countries. Unlike voters who live in Brazil, those who have an electoral domicile abroad vote only for president and vice president of the Republic.
First bulletins showed Flavio's advantage
The first known data from Japan already pointed to an expressive advantage for Flávio Bolsonaro. In a survey made from 119 ballot papers, the PL candidate appeared with 24,601 votes.
With the release of new bulletins, the partial advance to 25,109 votes for Flávio Bolsonaro and 5,567 for Lula, maintaining a difference of more than 19,000 votes between the two candidates.
Flávio Bolsonaro also appeared in front of Lula in other overseas locations, including the Philippines, Thailand, Taiwan and the United Arab Emirates. Lula led the vote in countries such as Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, Malaysia and Singapore.
The official result will be announced by TSE
Despite the ballot boxes allowing to follow the vote in advance in countries where the sections have already closed due to the time zone, the numbers released during the day do not yet represent the official totalization of the presidential election.
The Justiça Eleitoral reported that the official disclosure of the results of the 2026 Elections begins at 17:00 this Sunday, by the time of Brasilia, after the closing of the vote in the national territory.
