Fraud at INSS: PF operation executes warrants in 3 cities in Paraná
Operation Sem Nexo executed warrants in Curitiba, Figueira and Ibaiti; investigation looks into disclosure of confidential information to third parties

The Federal Police (PF) launched, on the morning of Wednesday (4), Operation Nexus, with the aim of combating an alleged scheme of illegal commercialization of confidential data of insureds of the National Institute of Social Security (INSS). The action took place in three municipalities of the Paraná and is part of an investigation into possible crimes against Social Security.
In all, three search and seizure warrants were executed in the cities of Curitiba, Figueira and Ibaiti. Justiça Federal also authorized the breach of the bank and digital secrecy of the investigators. All measures were determined by the 14th Federal Court of Curitiba.
Investigation investigates sale of sensitive information
According to the information disclosed by the Social Security Task Force, the scheme investigated involves the irregular obtaining and marketing of personal and social security information of INSS insured persons.
The data would have been passed on to third parties, including lawyers. The practice may represent a violation of personal data protection norms and rules that guarantee the confidentiality of information held by Social Security.
The research seeks to identify how this information was obtained, who participated in the marketing and what would have been the destination of the data.
Investigators may be held accountable for various crimes
As the investigation progresses, those involved will be able to answer for crimes such as hacking into a computer device, criminal association, reception and improper disclosure of confidential information.
Any violation of functional secrecy may also be investigated, if the participation of any public agent is identified.
To date, however, no evidence of involvement of public servants or irregular granting of pension benefits has been found.
The main focus of the operation is the possible mismarketing of information from insureds, and not the fraudulent granting of retirements or other benefits.
