From Rivals to Allies: In PG, Flávio Bolsonaro Talks About His Fight with Moro

Flávio Bolsonaro says in Ponta Grossa that Moro today is convinced that he did not commit irregularities. Presidential said that disagreements with Sergio Moro remained in the past and highlighted support of the candidate for the Government of Paraná.

The presidential candidate of the Republic Flávio Bolsonaro (PL) stated on Saturday (5), in Ponta Grossa, that Senator Sergio Moro (PL), candidate for the Government of Paraná, currently has the conviction that he did not commit irregularities in the case known as “cracks”.

The statement was given during Flavio’s passage through the municipality, where he visited Filipe Martins, a former adviser of Jair Bolsonaro who is imprisoned in the Hildebrando de Souza Public Chain. Flavio was accompanied by Moro and the candidate for the Senate by the PL, Filipe Barros.

Asked by the press about how the current political alliance between him and Moro could be reconciled with the criticisms made by the former judge to the Bolsonaro family in the past, Flavio said that the differences were left behind.

“There is nothing better than time to show who is innocent and who is not. So today, the Sérgio Moro is convinced that I did nothing wrong,” said Flávio.

The presidential candidate then reinforced his support for the former judge and said he considers Moro one of the main names of the political group of the PL in the Paraná.

“Moro is part of our team. “He is our candidate for government here at Paraná, I am sure he will be a great governor,” he said.

The relationship between Moro and Bolsonaro has had a strong wear

The rapprochement between the two politicians comes years after a relationship marked by strong differences.

Moro left the Ministry of Justice in April 2020, during the government of Jair Bolsonaro, accusing the then president of trying to interfere in the Federal Police. After leaving the government, the former judge began to make public criticism of Bolsonaro and also mentioned the case involving Flavio and the suspicions of “rachedinha” in the office of the then state deputy.

In 2021, during a speech related to his pre-candidacy for president, Moro even cited the “cracks” among the corruption cases that, according to him, should be fought without distinction from political allies.

At that time, Flávio was being investigated on suspicion of participation in a scheme of appropriation of part of the salaries of advisers in the Legislative Assembly of Rio de Janeiro (Alerj). Subsequently, the Fifth Chamber of the Superior Court of Justice annulled acts of the investigation.

Moro also reported in a book published in 2021 episodes of his passage by the Ministry of Justice and stated that there were pressures related to the Financial Activities Control Council (Coaf) during investigations that reached Flávio Bolsonaro and its former advisor Fabrício Queiroz.

Now Moro is an ally of Flavio

The political landscape has changed since then. Moro currently joins the PL and is a candidate for the Government of Paraná, with support from Flávio Bolsonaro.

During Saturday's agenda, the two appeared together on Ponta Grossa following Flavio's visit to Filipe Martins. The presence of Moro alongside the presidential candidate publicly reinforced the new alliance between the two politicians.

In addition to commenting on the relationship with Moro, Flávio also criticized Minister Alexandre de Moraes of Supremo Tribunal Federal. After leaving the public chain, the candidate stated that the minister’s office would be a “chase office” and defended that the Federal Senate impeach Moraes.

Visit to Filipe Martins

Flavio’s passage through Ponta Grossa had as his main commitment the visit to Filipe Martins, former special adviser for International Affairs of the government Jair Bolsonaro.

Martins serves a 21-year prison sentence after being convicted by the First Class of STF for involvement in the attempted coup after the 2022 elections. The visit was authorized by Alexandre de Moraes

During the agenda, Flávio described Martins’ conviction as unfair and again defended members of the political group linked to the former president Jair Bolsonaro.

The presence of Flávio, Moro and Filipe Barros in Ponta Grossa also gives electoral weight to the visit, amid the dispute by the Government of Paraná and for the two seats in the Senate in the elections of 2026.
