Government announces Pix of up to R$5,000 for MEIs; see who can receive the benefit
Pix MEI program provides money transfer without need for repayment for small entrepreneurs; package also includes debt forgiveness and increase in revenue limit

The Federal Government announced a new benefit of up to R$ 5,000 for Individual Microentrepreneurs (MEIs), which can be transferred by Pix and will not need to be returned. The initiative, called Pix MEI, is part of the Prospera MEI program and seeks to help small entrepreneurs invest in their businesses, acquire equipment and strengthen their activities.
The package was announced on October 13, 2026 and includes measures to provide financial support, renegotiate debts and expand the growth possibilities of micro-entrepreneurs. The government expects about 1 million MEIs to benefit from the Pix MEI over four years.
Despite the announcement, the $5,000 payment is not yet available for all entrepreneurs. The implementation of the programme is planned for 2027 and depends on the definition of operating rules and procedures for the release of resources.
Who will be entitled to the $5,000 Pix?
The Pix MEI will be aimed at individual microentrepreneurs who need financial support to develop their economic activities, especially those who face difficulties in obtaining credit.
The money should be used in the business itself, allowing investments in equipment, raw materials, tools and other needs related to professional activity.
One of the main differentials of the program is that the amount received will not need to be returned, because it is a productive support, and not a conventional loan.
However, this does not mean that all MEIs will automatically receive R$ 5,000. The value represents the announced maximum, and the specific selection and award criteria still need to be observed as per the program regulations.
When will the $5,000 Pix MEI be paid?
The Pix MEI is expected to start operating in 2027. The government intends to operationalize the initiative with the participation of financial institutions and support of the Brazilian Service of Support to Micro and Small Enterprises (Sebrae).
There is no official payment schedule with specific dates for each beneficiary.
Therefore, micro-entrepreneurs should follow the Federal Government’s communications and avoid providing personal data on pages that promise to immediately anticipate or release the benefit.
Government also provides for debt forgiveness for MEIs
In addition to the Pix of up to R$ 5,000, another important measure of Prospera MEI is the forgiveness of tax debts accumulated by microentrepreneurs.
The Complementary Bill No. 186/2026 has already been approved by the Congresso Nacional and awaits presidential sanction. The proposal provides for the forgiveness of debts entered in the Active Debt of the Union until October 13, 2026.
According to the Attorney General’s Office of the National Treasury (PGFN), approximately 3.6 million microentrepreneurs will benefit from this measure, which may begin to apply on January 1, 2027.
In order to maintain the pardon, the entrepreneur must pay the monthly contributions of the MEI during the six months following the entry into force of the legislation.
MEI’s billing limit may also increase
The package announced by the Federal Government includes other changes for small businesses. Among them is the progressive increase of the annual limit of turnover allowed for the category.
Currently set at R$ 81 thousand, the ceiling could rise to R$ 110 thousand in 2027 and reach R$ 140 thousand in 2028.
The proposal also expands the possibility of hiring employees and establishes new opportunities for participation in public procurement. These changes are part of the bill approved by Congress and still depend on the presidential sanction.
How to apply for the Pix MEI?
The procedures for registration, analysis and release of resources still need to be officially detailed. Therefore, there is no guarantee that just having an active MEI CNPJ is enough to receive the money.
