Infraero will assess the condition of the runway at Sant’Ana Airport, in Ponta Grossa

Infraero will carry out technical evaluations on the infrastructure of Sant’Ana Airport – Comandante Antônio Amilton Beraldo, in Ponta Grossa. The services will analyze the conditions of the landing and take-off runway, of the Taxiway Alfa — used by the aircraft to travel between the runway and the courtyard — and of the general courtyard of the terminal. The information is contained in a service order published in the Official Journal of the Municipality on Monday (14).

The document deals with Contract No. 357/2026, signed between Prefeitura de Ponta Grossa and the Brazilian Airport Infrastructure Company (Infraero). Among the planned works are measurement of friction, macrotexture and evaluation of the Serventia Index, in addition to the survey and calculation of the PCI (Pavement Condition Index) of the airport structure. The technical reports must follow the standards and requirements established by the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC).

What will be evaluated?

In simple terms, the tests help to identify how the pavement used by the aircraft is. The friction measurement generally checks the gripping capacity between the aircraft tyres and the runway. The macrotexture analysis observes characteristics of the pavement surface that influence, among other factors, the water flow and the contact of the tires with the ground.

The PCI, in turn, is a technical indicator used to assess pavement conditions and identify signs of deterioration that may require monitoring, maintenance or other measures. At Sant’Ana Airport, the contract provides that these assessments are carried out on the landing and take-off runway, Taxiway Alfa and general courtyard.

Is evaluation linked to new flights?

For now, it is not possible to say. The Municipality publication deals specifically with the realization of technical evaluations and the preparation of the reports required by the ANAC standards. The document does not inform that the service is related to the arrival of new commercial flights, approval of new operations or some future work at the airport.

Nor is the value of the Contract No. 357/2026 or the date on which the tests will actually be carried out detailed in the publication analyzed. Service Order No. 40/2026 was signed on September 8 by the Municipal Secretary of Infrastructure, Luiz Henrique de Souza Honesko, and also establishes the servers responsible for the management and supervision of the contract with Infraero.
