Intense rains mobilize Civil Defense, Firefighters and municipal teams in emergency actions in the city and countryside

Intense rains in Castro have accumulated about 208 millimeters since Thursday and caused rivers to rise, flooding, road blockades and problems on rural roads on Sunday. Defesa Civil, Fire Department, Municipal Guard and City Hall teams remain mobilized to serve residents and monitor areas considered at risk.

According to the municipal weather stations, there were 63.2 millimeters of rain on Thursday, 47.4 millimeters on Friday (11), 79.1 millimeters on Saturday (12) and 18.4 millimeters until the survey released on Sunday. The accumulated in the period reaches approximately 208 millimeters.

In the region of Socavão, the quantity was even greater. The accumulated has exceeded 300 millimeters in the last seven days. In the stations near the urban perimeter of Castro, the volume recorded in the same period approximates 220 millimeters.

The Japo River rises rapidly

The high volume of rain caused a rapid rise of the Japó River. Data from the Copel station responsible for monitoring the level and flow indicate that the river was at 5.5 meters on Thursday and reached 6.9 meters on Sunday.

According to the coordinator of Defesa Civil of Castro, Edmir Kirchof, despite the increase in the level of the rivers and the disturbances registered at different points, the situation remained under control and was monitored by the municipal teams.

In addition to the Iapó River, the municipality monitors the Piraí Rivers, which passes through the region of Caxambu, Maracanã and São Cristóvão.

Lakes in Lacustre Parks I and II also overflowed, causing water to advance over nearby areas and streets.

Families receive care

Since Friday, municipal teams have been responding to incidents caused by heavy rains in Castro.

In the spring, there was a landslide near a residence. One family received care and, on Sunday, another house in the region suffered from the advance of water, demanding support for the removal of furniture and other belongings.

Another family needed help to make a move because of the flood of the Maracanã River.

In the Arapongas region, an elderly couple received care after water entered the residence. The municipality offered accommodation, but the residents chose to stay temporarily in the neighboring house.

In the region of Vila Santa Cruz and Portal do Braga, a resident was isolated in a residence located on the right bank of the Iapó River. The water reached about an inch to reach the interior of the house.

The Defesa Civil requested support from the Municipal Guard and Social Assistance to carry out the preventive withdrawal of the resident and approximately ten cats.

In the Prainha region, firefighters use boats to help residents remove furniture and belongings.

The streets are banned

The advance of the water caused interdictions on roads near Prainha and the Lacustre Parks I and II.

Among the affected points are Mariana Marques Street, Hernandes Antunes Street and Lake Street.

The power supply was also preventively shut down in some routes in the Prainha and Parque Lacustre regions.

Rains affect rural roads

In the interior of Castro, the Defesa Civil tracks landslides, bumps and road damage.

In the Paina region, a community was isolated, but access was restored between Saturday and Sunday. There were also landslides on the Palmital road and in the region of Limas.

In São Luiz dos Machados, a landslide hit a road. In the region of Guararema, in the direction of Piraí do Sul, a river advanced over a passage on a rural road.

Teams also follow situations in Rio Bonito, Tanque Grande, Maracanã, Serra do Apon, Santa Clara and other localities.

Machines work on an emergency scale

Castro has approximately 5,000 kilometers of rural roads. More than 3,000 kilometers are served directly by the City Hall.

The three machine parks of the municipality, located in Castro, Abapã and Socavão, were placed on an emergency scale.

According to the Municipal Secretariat of Interior Infrastructure and Logistics, teams are working on the recovery and unobstructed accesses.

The road between Socavão and Castro was cleared on Saturday night. The Maracanã section also received attention and, on Sunday, teams are working in Santa Clara to free up access.

The municipal secretary of Interior Infrastructure and Logistics, Eleandro Campos Pereira, said that the structure will remain mobilized in the coming days, with priority for the most critical points and essential access to rural communities.

Municipality prepares places for reception

The Municipal Secretariat of Social Assistance accompanies affected residents and families who eventually need to leave their homes.

The Pop House is available for reception and municipal gyms have been prepared to receive residents if needed.

According to Secretary Günter Lesnau, the teams remain mobilized to ensure assistance to the affected families.

The Municipal Guard also performs rounds around the city and assists in the attendances.

Defesa Civil keeps monitoring

Mayor Reinaldo Cardoso convened a meeting of the Emergency Room of Defesa Civil Municipal for this Sunday, with representatives of different secretariats.

The meeting aims to set priorities for the next few hours, including the use of teams and machines, the release of access and the care of affected families.

The municipality warns that river levels can still increase and asks special attention to residents of areas near rivers, streams, slopes and places historically subject to flooding.

The guidance is to avoid any attempt to cross water-covered streets or roads.

In case of emergency with immediate risk, the Fire Department must be activated by telephone 193. The call to the City Guard is on the phone 153.

With heavily soaked soil and rivers and streams at high levels, new rainy periods can increase the risk of flooding, landslides and road damage.

The Defesa Civil of Castro maintains permanent monitoring and guides the population to follow the official announcements and immediately seek a safe place in case of any situation of risk.
