It is false that Lula's votes exceeded the number of residents in cities

A false video circulating on social media claims that Lula received more votes than the total number of residents in Brazilian cities in the 2026 elections. The check shows that the numbers do not add up and that the video was fabricated using artificial intelligence.

There is a video circulating on social networks with an alleged TV report in which the presenter claims that, in the 2026 elections, President Lula (PT) had more votes than the total number of inhabitants in certain cities of Brazil. It's #FAKE.

The new version of the fake message, now on video, went viral in the first week of November 2026, after Lula’s victory over Flávio Bolsonaro (PL), the eldest son of Jair Bolsonaro, in the second round of the 2026 elections.

As in 2022, in none of the cities mentioned the number of votes of Lula exceeded that of inhabitants or voters. Some of the cities were pointed to in states different from those in which they are effectively, and some of the names mentioned do not even refer, in fact, to municipalities.

Video Made With AI Deceives About Voting

The fake content simulates a television report, but the presenter and the scenario were generated by artificial intelligence. The technique, known as deepfake, has been used to spread political misinformation.

The central claim of the video is that Lula would have received more votes than the total inhabitants in some cities, which is mathematically impossible, since the number of votes cannot exceed that of registered voters, which in turn is always smaller than the total population.

In addition, the piece cites municipalities with the wrong location and even names that do not correspond to real cities, which reinforces the manufacture of the content.

Check confirms: numbers don't match

Official data of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) show that, in all the cities mentioned, Lula’s vote was below the number of eligible voters. In no case did the total votes of the candidate exceed the population of the municipality.

The comparison between votes and inhabitants is a common error in pieces of disinformation, because it ignores that only a portion of the population is able to vote and that not all voters attend the polls.

The video also repeats the tactic of citing small towns to give the impression of fraud, but the electoral data are public and can be consulted by any citizen.

History of similar misinformation

This is not the first time that the claim that Lula would have more votes than inhabitants has been circulated. In 2022, after the second round, similar messages were denied by checking agencies.

The repetition of the rumor in 2026, now in AI video format, shows the evolution of digital manipulation techniques. Experts warn of the need to verify the origin of content before sharing.

The Boca no Trombone Portal reinforces the commitment to verified information and recommends that readers consult official sources, such as the TSE, to check election results.

How to Identify Fake Videos with AI

Deepfakes can have minor flaws, such as broken lip movements, artificial facial expressions, and inconsistent audio quality. Be wary of videos with extraordinary claims and no identifiable source.

Checking tools and checking sites can also help confirm the authenticity of a content. In case of doubt, do not share.
