Loaded clouds alarm in Ponta Grossa

The storm warning on Ponta Grossa gained an impressive backdrop on Wednesday afternoon. Images taken by a resident show charged clouds advancing over the city and leaving the sky much darker before the arrival of rain.

The records were made from the balcony of an apartment and show a large cloud formation covering part of the sky of Ponta Grossa. The change in brightness drew attention, making it seem that the evening had arrived earlier in the city.

The images were recorded precisely on a day marked by conditions of instability and weather alert for Ponta Grossa and municipalities of Campos Gerais.

Alert still valid in Ponta Grossa

The National Meteorological Institute (Inmet) has issued a yellow warning, classified as of potential danger, with forecast of heavy rain, strong wind gusts and possibility of hailfall.

The warning started at 8:48 this Wednesday (9) and remains valid until 23:59.

According to information released by Inmet, rainfall can vary between 20 and 30 millimeters per hour, reaching up to 50 millimeters accumulated during the day. Wind gusts can reach speeds between 40 and 60 km/h.

There is also the possibility of hailfall during episodes of greater instability.

Ponta Grossa is in the warning area

Ponta Grossa is located in Centro Oriental Paranaense, one of the regions included in the weather alert. Municipalities of Campos Gerais are also within the area subject to adverse conditions.

Other Paraná regions appear among the areas affected by the warning, including Pioneer North, Curitiba Metropolitan Region, Midwest, Northwest, Midwest, Southwest, Southeast, and Midwest.

The weather forecast indicates an unstable environment in Paraná, with the possibility of formation of charged clouds, thunderstorms, strong gusts of wind and hail.

The conditions are related to the action of low pressure areas and atmospheric excavation over the center-south of Brazil, a combination that favors the formation of storms.

What are the main risks

Although the warning is classified as a potential hazard, there are risks associated with storms.

Possible occurrences include fall of tree branches, flooding, damage to plantations and occasional interruptions in the supply of electricity.

The recommendation is for the population to be attentive especially when there is rapid formation of charged clouds, lightning occurrence or intensification of wind gusts.

Care during the storm

During strong winds, the orientation is to avoid staying under trees, due to the risk of falling branches and electric shocks.

It is also not recommended to park vehicles near trees, transmission towers or advertising signs.

During storms, the population should avoid using electronic devices connected directly to the outlet.

In case of emergency, the Defesa Civil can be triggered by the 199 phone and the Fire Department by the 193.
