The debate between Lula and Flávio Bolsonaro takes place on Friday (23), starting at 21:20, and will be the last televised confrontation between the candidates for the Presidency of the Republic before the second round of the 2026 elections, scheduled for Sunday (25). The meeting will be promoted by TV Globo, at Estúdios Globo, in Rio de Janeiro, with the mediation of journalist César Tralli.

On one side will be President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), who is vying for re-election. On the other, Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL), candidate of the opposition. The two will have the opportunity to present proposals, answer questions and discuss issues of national interest in one of the last commitments of the electoral campaign.

Lula and Flávio Bolsonaro meet in last debate this Friday (23)

The broadcast will be carried out live by TV Globo, by GloboNews, by the portal g1 and by the platform Globoplay, just after the Jornal Nacional.

What will be the debate between Lula and Flávio Bolsonaro?

According to the rules published by the broadcaster, the presidential debate will be divided into four blocks of questions and answers, in addition to the final considerations of the candidates.

In the first block, six rounds will be held with topics related to the different regions of Brazil and a priority theme of national coverage. The proposal is to allow candidates to discuss regional problems and present solutions to issues that affect the population.

Already in the second and third blocks, Lula and Flávio Bolsonaro should select themes presented on a screen to formulate questions to the opponent. Each candidate will have three minutes per round, distributed between questions, answers, replicas and triplicates.

The fourth block will be dedicated to the free theme debate. In this stage, each participant will have eight minutes to manage their interventions, without limit of questions or answers, respecting the available time. The order of participation will be defined by a draw made by the mediator.

Globo establishes rules for the movement of candidates

One of the novelties of the debate on Friday involves the circulation of participants through the scenario.

In the first three blocks, the candidate with the word will be able to move through the studio. However, the adversary must remain in his pulpit until he receives the turn to speak.

In the fourth block, the two will be able to circulate, but each will be restricted to a certain area of the scenario.

The measure was established after situations recorded in the debate promoted by the Band, last Sunday (18), when the proximity between the candidates during certain speeches provoked complaints. The organization also intends to avoid interruptions that prejudice the presentation of proposals to the electorate.

Candidate statements will be checked

Another initiative announced for the meeting will be the verification of information presented by the presidential candidates.

A team of journalists from Grupo Globo will be responsible for checking statements during the debate. Verifications will be made available on the g1 portal, through the Fato or Fake project.

The aim is to allow voters to consult verified information on data, statements and statements submitted by candidates throughout the confrontation.

The work should continue after the closure of the broadcast, with the participation of journalistic media of the group.

Last meeting before Sunday's vote

The debate on Friday comes just two days before the second round of the presidential elections, when Brazilians will return to the polls to choose the next president of the Republic.

For the voters of Ponta Grossa, Campos Gerais and the entire Paraná, the broadcast will be an opportunity to follow the positions of the two candidates on areas such as health, education, public safety, economy and infrastructure.

After the confrontation, Lula and Flávio Bolsonaro will have space to present their final considerations. The broadcaster also provides press conferences with candidates in the press room after the program.

The second round of voting will take place on Sunday, October 25, from 8 am to 5 pm, during Brasilia time.
