President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva defended on Wednesday the complete breaking of the secrecy of investigations involving all the people cited in the Master case. Lula called the investigation “the biggest financial crime in Brazil’s history.”

The demonstration comes amid a crisis between ministers of Supremo Tribunal Federal (STF) related to the decisions taken in the investigations of the Master case and the former banker Daniel Vorcaro.

In a post on social media, Lula said that the breach of secrecy must occur urgently.

“The Brazilian people need explanations and immediate measures to face the institutional crisis that has taken over the Judiciary,” he said.

The president also charged transparency in the investigations and criticized selective leaks that, he said, impact the election dispute.

Lula defended that the breach of secrecy is complete and reaches all those involved, “whoever it is, it hurts those who hurt.”

“Brazil needs to know the truth,” he concluded.

Understand the Crisis

The crisis in the Supreme Court gained momentum after Minister André Mendonça withdrew the secrecy of partial reports from Operação Compliance Zero, of which he is rapporteur. The investigation targets corruption of public officials and billionaire financial fraud allegedly committed by Daniel Vorcaro.

In the material disclosed there are 52 messages that, according to the investigators, were sent by Vorcaro to Minister Alexandre de Moraes.

In the messages, the former banker demonstrates proximity to Moraes and appears to have forwarded to the minister a contract of R$ 131 million signed between the Master and the law firm of Viviane Barci de Moraes, wife of the minister.

Alexandre de Moraes denies any contact with the former banker.

After the release of the material, Moraes made public an “intelligence report” of the Federal Police that points to suspicions of directing the conduct of the Master case against political disaffection.
