Lula will deliver authorization for breaking secrecy to TSE
The president Lula announced that he will deliver to TSE authorization for breaking bank and telephone secrecy of himself and his family. He called on candidate Flávio Bolsonaro to do the same. The statement took place in Porto Alegre.

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) said on Monday (19) that he will hand the president of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), on Tuesday (20), an authorization for the breach of telephone and banking secrecy of him and his family. The statement was given during a press statement before a campaign act at Porto Alegre, in Rio Grande do Sul. Lula also publicly charged that the candidate Flávio Bolsonaro (PL) adopt the same measure.
According to the president, the initiative aims to give transparency to the electoral process. "I will deliver this tomorrow at TSE in the expectation that the adversary candidate presents a proposal to open his secrecy, of his companies and family," Lula said. The speech comes a day after the presidential debate in which the issue was raised.
Proposal came into the presidential debate
During the presidential debate on Sunday, Lula proposed that the two candidates open their bank accounts and phone secrets for analysis before the election. This was the first direct confrontation between the two candidates in a debate in this election. At the time, the opponents exchanged accusations about criminal investigations of allies and family members.
Flávio Bolsonaro, for its part, claimed to have "absolutely nothing to hide", but did not confirm whether it would authorize the breach of secrecy. The answer left open whether the PL candidate will follow the same path proposed by Lula.
President strengthens collection in campaign act
After the speech, during the campaign act in Porto Alegre, Lula wrote on a poster the phrase "open the secrecy of Flavio". The gesture reinforced the collection made moments before to the press. The attitude was recorded by communication vehicles present at the event.
The president is the father of five children: Lulinha, Lurian, Marcos, Sandro and Luis Claudio. The authorization mentioned by Lula covers, according to him, the breach of secrecy of him and the family, without specifying which members would be included.
Electoral context and transparency
The proposed breach of secrecy comes at a time of heightening of the electoral dispute. Sunday’s debate was marked by exchanges of charges between the candidates, involving criminal investigations of allies and family members. The measure, if implemented by both, could bring more transparency on the finances and communications of candidates.
Electoral law experts heard by the report explain that the breach of bank and telephone secrecy of candidates is not a common procedure during campaigns, but can be authorized judicially if there are indications of irregularities. However, the voluntary authorization, as announced by Lula, dispenses with a court decision and depends only on the delivery of the document to TSE.
Next Steps and Expectations
The release of the authorization is scheduled for Tuesday (20), as announced by Lula. There is no confirmation as to whether the document will be filed directly with the TSE or through legal representatives. The source did not detail the format of the delivery.
Meanwhile, Flávio Bolsonaro’s campaign did not officially speak out about Lula’s collection. The candidate of the PL has limited himself to saying that he has nothing to hide, without indicating if he will authorize the breaking of his secrets. The expectation is that the issue will continue to resonate in the coming days.
The Boca no Trombone Portal will continue to follow the unfolding of this proposal and will bring updates as there are new unfoldings.
