Mabel Canto cites R$ 209 million for Ponta Grossa and explains support for Sergio Moro

Mabel Canto, MEP for re-election in the 2026 elections, said she intends to continue to have Ponta Grossa and Campos Gerais as priorities of her term in the Legislative Assembly of Paraná. In an interview with BnT, she highlighted resources destined for the region, spoke about health, education and infrastructure and explained the reasons that led her to support Sergio Moro in the dispute for the Government of Paraná.

According to Mabel, over R$ 209 million in resources were allocated to Ponta Grossa, with investments mainly in the areas of health, education and infrastructure. The candidate also highlighted the action aimed at women and stated that 23 laws related to the female public were approved during her parliamentary work.

Health among the priorities

During the interview, Mabel stated that health-related demands are among the top requests received by her office. She cited investments in hospitals in the region and said nearly R$ 37 million in health amendments were earmarked.

Among the actions mentioned are resources for the maternity hospital of the Regional Hospital, equipment for the Santa Casa and other units, as well as ambulances, buses, vans and equipment destined for municipalities of the Campos Gerais.

The candidate also recalled the so-called Law of Adequate Childbirth, created from demands of pregnant women of Ponta Grossa. According to Mabel, the measure allowed women served by SUS to choose the birth path. It stated that it is currently seeking, through an appeal on Supremo Tribunal Federal (STF), to restore the effects of the legislation.

“I am a bairrista”

Speaking about regional representativeness, Mabel stated that she concentrates her work mainly on Ponta Grossa and Campos Gerais.

“I am a bairrista,” he said during the interview, arguing that the region responsible for electing it should have priority in the allocation of the resources won by the mandate. She also advocated that MPs listen to the population before voting on projects with a direct impact on residents.

The deputy also criticized the privatization of Copel and said she voted against the measure. In her assessment, the change brought impacts on tariffs and the quality of energy supply. Mabel also mentioned reports from businessmen in the Ponta Grossa Industrial District about supply interruptions.

Support for Sergio Moro

Asked about the political scenario of Paraná, Mabel positively evaluated the current state management, but confirmed that she decided to support Sergio Moro in the election for governor.

According to the candidate, the decision did not occur because of the ideological dispute between the right and left. Mabel claimed to consider Moro a name capable of representing a political renewal in the state.

"It was not because of the right and left fight that led me to support Sergio Moro," he said. She said she sees the candidate as a “new” and “enthusiastic” person, able to form a new political group and maintain initiatives that are showing good results.

Re-election and representation of women

In the final part of the interview, Mabel again defended her candidacy for re-election. She cited more than R$ 40 million earmarked for education, more than R$ 37 million for health and R$ 100 million for paving in Ponta Grossa, in addition to investments in areas such as sport, agriculture and culture.

The candidate also stated that she intends to continue as a representative of women in the Legislative Assembly and stressed the importance of the presence of women in politics.
