A fire in a residence at Ponta Grossa destroyed a small house located on Padre Anacleto Street in the New Russia region on Wednesday night. According to information obtained at the site, the fire started after a 42-year-old man fell asleep with a lit candle next to the bed. The fire department was called in to respond to the incident.

According to the resident’s account, the residence had no electricity supply, which is why he used a candle to illuminate the environment. On the night of the incident, the man left the candle lit while resting and ended up falling asleep.

When he woke up, he realized that the box bed was already on fire. He even tried to remove the furniture from the residence to prevent the flames from reaching the rest of the structure, but was unable to control the situation.

The fire spread rapidly through the small space and caused significant damage to the property.

The house was destroyed after the fire.

The residence affected was a fairly small construction, with approximately six square meters, as estimated at the site of the occurrence. The space was used as a home by the 42-year-old man.

According to the information raised, the property had a simple structure and did not have an electrical power installation in operation.

The resident also reported that the land where the building was installed does not belong to him. However, he used the place as a residence.

As the flames advanced, the fire hit virtually the entire structure, leaving the small house destroyed.

The fire department was activated

Firefighters were called to respond to the fire in Padre Anacleto Street. The incident mobilized professionals during the night of Wednesday (21), in the Orfãos neighborhood.

The fire in the home in the Orfãos neighborhood drew attention to the speed with which the flames spread through the environment, which had reduced dimensions.

So far, no confirmed information has been passed on about possible injuries to the resident. There are also no details about the need for medical attention or about the man’s shelter situation after the destruction of the residence.

The circumstances reported indicate that the candle may have started the fire, but the ultimate cause has not yet been confirmed by a technical assessment.

Care to prevent domestic fires

The case reinforces the importance of care with lit candles inside homes, especially in small spaces and close to flammable materials, such as mattresses, clothes, blankets and furniture.

The Fire Department generally directs that candles be kept on firm surfaces, resistant to heat and away from objects that may catch fire. It is also essential to erase them before sleeping or leaving the environment.

In fire situations, the recommendation is to leave the site safe and immediately activate the Fire Department by phone 193.

The occurrence recorded in Ponta Grossa highlights the risks of using open flames in residential environments, especially when there is no electrical lighting available.
