New cyclone brings risk of storms to Paraná; see forecast for Ponta Grossa
Cyclone extratropical in Paraná may influence the weather and increase the risk of storms over the weekend; Ponta Grossa will have rain and wind

The possibility of the formation of a new extratropical cyclone in the Paraná and in the Southern Region puts the weather conditions in the spotlight again for next weekend. The system is expected to organize in the vicinity of Uruguay between Sunday (20) and Monday (21), while an associated cold front could increase instability. In Ponta Grossa, the forecast of Simepar already points to rain and gusts of wind between Saturday (19) and Monday (21).
The weather trend indicates that the new cold front may favor storms initially in the three states of the Southern Region. Among the phenomena associated with the areas of instability are heavy rain, high incidence of lightning, gusts of wind and localized possibility of hail. The formation of the cyclone, however, still depends on the evolution of the atmospheric conditions in the coming days.
Inmet forecasts heavy rainfall on Paraná
The weekly forecast of the National Meteorological Institute (INMET), released on Monday, confirms a significant change in weather conditions during the weekend. According to the agency, the instability is again affecting the three southern states. In the Paraná, the largest volumes are designed for the Coast, Central Region, West, Curitiba and Metropolitan Region. At some points in these areas, the week’s accumulates can exceed 100 millimeters.
The scenario also occurs in a month that already presents favorable conditions for more frequent rains. Simepar forecasts September with above-average volumes in all regions of Paraná, amid the passage of cold fronts and low pressure systems.
Ponta Grossa will have weather change from Saturday
In Ponta Grossa, the Simepar forecast indicates a change in weather conditions precisely during the period in which the new system is expected to advance through the Southern Region. After a few days of mild temperatures and more stable weather, rain returns over the weekend.
On Wednesday (16), at 8:15 a.m., the weather station recorded 11,5°C at Ponta Grossa, with a thermal sensation of 10°C. There was no record of rain at the time, as the wind blew from the south at 8 km/h, with observed gusts of 12 km/h. For the day, the forecast indicates temperature ranging between 10°C and 20°C.
On Thursday (17), the thermometers should vary between 10°C and 21°C. On Friday (18), the minimum rises to 12°C, while the maximum forecast is 19°C. The main change begins on Saturday (19), when Simepar already indicates rain in Ponta Grossa, with temperatures between 14°C and 19°C.
On Sunday (20), a period in which there is a forecast of organization of the low pressure system in the South of the continent, temperatures rise at Ponta Grossa. The minimum is 17°C and the maximum reaches 23°C, with a scenario of instability.
The rain is expected to continue on Monday (21), when the thermometers are between 17°C and 19°C. For Tuesday (22), Simepar also indicates unstable weather, with minimum of 17°C and maximum of 21°C.
