The mayor of Ponta Grossa, Elizabeth Schmidt, regretted the landslide in the Round that ended with the deaths of three people on Thursday morning and said that teams of the Municipality are working to identify other families who remain in areas considered at risk. “Everyone was here and they are still here, doing the survey of this whole area. The number of people who still live in the area of risk, so that they are removed, so that they are banned,” he said.

The Fire Department had already warned of the possibility of new land movements due to the soaked soil. According to Captain Bacuri, the large volume of accumulated rain increases the risk in hillside regions, and Defesa Civil has begun the analysis of other nearby houses.

Families may receive social rent

Asked where families would be sent if new homes were banned, Elizabeth said FASPG could provide support to residents.
