The Operário Ferroviário suffered another defeat in the Serie B final of the Brazilian Championship. Playing away from home, Fantasma lost 2-1 to Novorizontino on Sunday night, and saw their chances of gaining access to the elite of national football become even more complicated.

The match was played at the Jorge Ismael Stadium in Biasi, in Novo Horizonte, inside São Paulo, for the 36th round of the competition. With the result, the team of Ponta Grossa remains with 51 points, occupying the 11th place, while the opponent reached 67 points and took the lead.

Novorizontino opens up in the first half

The São Paulo team began the match by pressuring the Worker and creating offensive opportunities. The superiority of the owners of the house appeared on the scoreboard in the 34 minutes of the first half.

After Robson's failure to hit the beam, Nicolas Careca took advantage of the rebound to open the scoreboard.

Four minutes later, Novorizontino expanded. After playing for the side and assisting Sander, Matheus Bianqui scored a beautiful bicycle goal, leaving the São Paulo team in lead by 2 to 0.

The Phantom found it difficult to contain the opponent's attack and finished the first stage without being able to score.

Worker reacts, but does not prevent defeat

At the back of the interval, the team led by coach Alberto Valentim managed to narrow the gap.

Six minutes into the second half, Dudu Mosconi took a left-handed foul and found Joseph within the area. The defender went up and headed to the bottom of the nets, putting the Worker back into the dispute.

Despite the reaction, the Ponta Grossa team failed to reach the draw. Novorizontino kept the lead until the final whistle and won three important points in the fight for direct access to the Série A.

The situation of the worker in the Serie B

With 51 points, the Worker continues in 11th position, four points behind the sixth place, the CRB, with only two rounds left for the end of the first phase.

The scenario requires an immediate reaction from the Ghost, who must win his commitments and still depend on the results of other teams to try to reach the qualifying zone to the access playoffs.

In 2026, the B-Series regulation provides that the first two places will guarantee direct access to the Série A. The clubs that finish between the third and sixth positions play elimination matches for the other two spots.

Next game of the Worker

The Worker returns to the field on Friday (6), at 7.30 pm, when he receives the Sport for the 37th round of Serie B.

The match will be played in Estádio Germano Krüger, in Ponta Grossa, and represents the last opportunity of the Phantom to act in front of his fans in this first phase of the championship.

With the classification increasingly tightened, the Alvinegro team needs to seek victory to keep alive their last chances of competing for access to the elite of Brazilian football.
