Operário still has 0.28% chance to reach the Série B playoffs
Operário still has 0.28% chance to reach the 2026 Série B playoffs. See what the Fantasma needs to keep alive the dream of promotion.

The Operário Ferroviário still has mathematical chances of playing the playoffs to access the Série A of the Brazilian Championship of 2027, but the situation is extremely complicated. According to a survey released on Tuesday (3) by Gato Mestre, of the ge, in partnership with the economist Bruno Imaizumi, the team of Ponta Grossa has only 0.28% probability of finishing the Series B among the first six places.
The projection was updated after the 36th round of the competition, which ended with the defeat of the Phantom 2-1 against Novorizontino, last Sunday (1st), away from home. With the result, the team led by Alberto Valentim remained with 51 points, occupying the 11th place.
Despite the unfavourable scenario, the Worker is still not mathematically eliminated from the G-6 dispute. However, in addition to winning his two remaining commitments, Alvinegro needs to cheer for a combination of stumbles from the opponents who are ahead of him in the classification.
Worker needs unlikely combination to reach G-6
With only two rounds remaining, the Worker can reach the maximum of 57 points. Currently, the sixth place belongs to CRB, which adds 55 points, the same score of Goiás, Sport and Atlético-GO.
This means that the Phantom depends on negative results from several direct competitors in order to reach the ranking zone.
The statistical survey indicates that the Worker has the lowest probability among the 11 clubs that can still finish the competition in the G-6.

New regulation holds hope for the Ghost
The 2026 Series B presents an important change in the system of access to the national elite. Unlike the previous editions, only the first two places guarantee direct place in the Série A.
The other two spots will be decided in knockout matches between the clubs that finish from third to sixth place.
The third place will face the sixth, while the fourth will dispute the qualification against the fifth, in round-trip matches.
Therefore, even far from the first positions, the Worker still maintains a small possibility of participating in the contest for access. The club no longer has a chance to win one of the two direct spots.
Defeat for Novorizontino complicated the situation
The 2-1 loss to Novorizontino was another obstacle to the Phantom’s pretensions. The São Paulo team reached 67 points and assumed the isolated leadership of the Serie B, while the Worker remained with 51.
According to the calculations presented by the Master Cat, the Novorizontino has a 94.16% chance of conquering direct access. The Youth appears in the sequence, with 66.93%.
The projections are carried out based on mathematical models that consider the offensive and defensive performance of the teams, in addition to thousands of simulations of the remaining games.
In the case of the Worker, the 0.28% percentage shows that access is still possible by the rules of competition, although it depends on a statistically very rare scenario.
The next challenge of the worker will be against Sport
The next appointment of the Phantom is marked for Friday (6), in front of Sport, for the 37th round of Serie B.
The confrontation becomes important because the opponent from Pernambuco is also in dispute for a spot in the playoffs.
For the Worker, only victory is concerned with the attempt to keep alive the dream of access. Any stumbling block may permanently close the possibilities of classification.
With their stay in the Serie B already assured, the team of Ponta Grossa reaches the last two rounds trying to turn a minimal chance into an unlikely reaction.
As long as there is mathematical possibility, the Ghost continues in dispute. But the numbers show that reaching the playoffs will require an exceptional combination of results.
