Operation Independence Day 2026 by PRF registered 95 accidents in Paraná

The Federal Road Police (PRF) on Monday (September 7th) closed Operation Independence Day 2026 on the federal highways of the Paraná. During the four days of reinforcement, 95 accidents were recorded, resulting in 98 people injured and three deaths.

The most serious accident was recorded on Saturday (5), in Ibiporã, on BR-369. A seven-month-old child died in a fall. The parents were wounded and were referred to the Santa Casa of Londrina. The three occupants were Paraguayan nationals.

The other deaths resulted from a runway exit and a lateral collision, in Terra Roxa and Araruna, respectively.

During the operation, PRF conducted 3,173 blood alcohol tests and surveyed 8,634 people and 8,290 vehicles. The radars recorded 3,092 blatant speeding.

143 occupants without a seat belt were also taken, 58 drivers and 85 passengers, in addition to 29 cases of irregular transport of children without the appropriate restraint device.

The police also registered 351 carriages for continuous lane overtaking, 45 infractions of drunkenness at the wheel, 26 flagrant cell phone use and 68 carriages for non-compliance with the Law of Rest of Professional Drivers. In all, four drivers were arrested for driving drunk – one per day of operation.

In the fight against crime, PRF seized 3.7 tons of marijuana, and 23 people were arrested for various crimes.

Education for traffic

During Operation Independence Day, PRF also carried out traffic education actions, with face-to-face activities, lectures, approaches to critical sections and actions of the Road Cinema. In total, 65 educational actions were carried out, which reached 1,033 people and 550 vehicles, with guidelines aimed at preventing accidents and adopting safer behaviors on highways.
