Oscar 2027: six Brazilian films advance in the race for a spot
Brazilian films in Oscar 2027: six productions continue in the race to represent Brazil. The choice will be announced on September 16.

The dispute between Brazilian films at the Oscars 2027 entered a new phase on Wednesday (9). The Brazilian Academy of Cinema announced the six feature films remaining in the race to represent Brazil in the Melhor Filme Internacional category. The chosen title will be released on September 16th.
The relationship was defined from an initial list of 15 Brazilian productions qualified to participate in the selection process.
What movies are in the Oscars 2027 contest?
The six films selected by the Brazilian Academy of Cinema are:
100 Days, directed by Carlos Saldanha
The Fabulous Time Machine by Eliza Capai
The Nature of Invisible Things by Rafaela Camelo.
Made Pipe by Allan Deberton.
Our Secret, by Grace Passô
Vicentina Apologizes, by Gabriel Martins.
Among the titles is 100 Days, a production directed by Carlos Saldanha and inspired by the historic crossing made by the navigator Amyr Klink, who crossed the South Atlantic on a rowing boat. The other competitors present different proposals and genres within the national film production.
Choice takes place on September 16
The commission responsible for the selection will meet again on Wednesday, September 16, when it will be chosen the film that will officially represent Brazil.
Being selected by the country, however, does not mean an automatic Oscar nomination. After receiving the representatives sent by different countries, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences of Estados Unidos carries out new selection steps until the official nominees for the Melhor Filme Internacional category are defined.
By Oscar rules, members of the Brazilian selection committee are not released before the announcement of the chosen film.
Brazil seeks to keep its spotlight at the Oscars
Brazilian cinema is experiencing a period of greater international projection. In 2025, Still Here, directed by Walter Salles, won Brazil’s first Oscar by winning just the Melhor Filme Internacional category.
In the next issue, O Agente Secreto, from Kleber Mendonça Filho, also came into the fray, but the award went to the Norwegian film Sentimental Value.
The Oscar 2027 ceremony is scheduled for March 14, 2027. Before that, Brazil will know next week which of the six films will have the mission to try to bring national cinema back to the main world awards.
