The Paraná in Pisa 2025 achieved the highest score among Brazilian states in the four areas evaluated and also presented results superior to the best performances recorded by Latin American countries. The data of the International Student Assessment Program were released on Tuesday (8) by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and the National Institute for Educational Studies and Research Anísio Teixeira (Inep).

In Science, Paraná students recorded 461.6 points, while the Brazilian average stood at 408.5. In the reading evaluation, the Paraná reached 458 points, against 408 points from Brazil.

In Mathematics, the state performance was 423.1 points, before 376.8 points of the national average. The biggest difference appeared in Problem Solving through Computational Tools: 467.4 points in Paraná compared to 405.5 in the whole country.

Paraná leads the four areas in Brazil

Considering the results published by the Federation unit, the Paraná was in the first place in the four competencies analyzed.

In Science, São Paulo appeared in sequence, with 442.6 points, while Santa Catarina obtained 430.6. In Reading, São Paulo scored 433.7 points and Santa Catarina, 431.7.

In Mathematics, São Paulo recorded 403.8 points and Minas Gerais, 395.7. In solving problems with computational tools, São Paulo reached 446 points and the Federal District obtained 436.

The result also stands out in Latin America

The scores obtained by Paraná students were also above the best results recorded by the Latin American countries participating in Pisa 2025.

In Science, the Paraná reached 461.6 points, compared to 445 points in Uruguay. In Mathematics, there were 423.1 points in the State and 405 in Uruguay.

In the Reading, the Paraná reached 458 points, while Chile, best Latin American result in the area, obtained 436. In the computational resolution of problems, the comparison published points 467 points for the Paraná and 466 for Chile.

It is important to note that Paraná does not participate in Pisa as an independent country or economy. The state integrates the Brazilian sample. State scores, however, were calculated on the same scale used internationally, allowing the comparison of results.

What is Pisa?

The Pisa is an international assessment coordinated by the OECD and applied, in general, every three years. The study analyzes the knowledge and skills of approximately 15-year-old students and traditionally evaluates Science, Reading and Mathematics.

In the 2025 edition, the domain of Learning in the Digital World was also incorporated, which includes problem solving with computational tools. The results related to self-regulated learning are expected to be released in 2027.

In total, approximately 760,000 students from 91 countries and economies participated in Pisa 2025. In Brazil, 30,140 students participated in the evaluation, applied between April and May last year.
