The Paraná at Pisa 2025 achieved the best performance among Brazilian states in the four evaluated areas and recorded superior results to the Latin American countries participating in the evaluation. The data from the International Programme for the Evaluation of Students, were released on Tuesday (8) by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and the Inep.

In Science, Paraná students reached 461.6 points, compared to a Brazilian average of 408.5. In Reading, the Paraná scored 458 points, while Brazil was 408. In Mathematics, there were 423.1 points in the State and 376.8 in the national average. In solving problems with computational tools, the Paraná reached 467.4 points, compared to 405.5 in Brazil.

The result placed the Paraná in the first national position in all four areas. São Paulo was second in the four comparisons, with differences ranging from 19 to 24.3 points in the areas of Science, Reading and Mathematics and 21.4 points in the resolution of computational problems.

Paraná is above the best Latin American results

In the comparison presented with the countries of Latin America participating in the Pisa, the Paraná performance was also above the best regional results.

In Science, the 461.6 points of the Paraná exceeded the 445 points of Uruguay. In Mathematics, the State recorded 423.1 points, compared to 405 in Uruguay. In Reading, the 458 points were above the 436 achieved by Chile. In solving problems with computational tools, the Paraná recorded 467 points, while Chile reached 466.

It is important to note that the Paraná does not participate in Pisa as an independent unit, in the same way as countries and economies. The state integrates the Brazilian sample. According to the material published, however, the results of Paraná students are calculated on the same international scale, which allows the comparison of performance.

Approximately 1,100 students from Paraná participated

Pisa evaluates 15-year-old students in areas such as Science, Reading and Mathematics, analyzing the ability to interpret information, solve problems and apply knowledge in different situations.

In Brazil, the sample of the 2025 edition gathered 36.319 students from 1,064 schools in 26 states and the Federal District. In Paraná, approximately 1,100 students from 30 state colleges participated in the evaluation.

The choice of schools and students follows international statistical criteria, under the coordination of the INEP and quality control of the OECD.

The State Secretary of Education, Roni Miranda, said that the result represents a recognition of the work done in the state network and expands the responsibility for preparing students for an increasingly digital society.

Governor Carlos Massa Ratinho Junior also attributed the performance to the work of education professionals and the investments made in the state network.

Largest edition in the history of Pisa

More than 760,000 15-year-old students from 91 countries and economies participated in Pisa 2025. According to the OECD, it was the largest edition ever held and the sample represents approximately 33 million young people of this age group.

The edition also brought novelties related to learning in digital environments and gathered data on the use of artificial intelligence tools in school activities. The information will allow analysis on frequency of use, socioeconomic profile and possible relationships with performance and learning.
