Paraná registers 38% drop in robberies and 7% in homicides in 2026; see the numbers

The Paraná recorded a further reduction in crime rates in 2026. Between January and August, cases of robbery, a crime characterized by theft followed by death, fell 38 percent, while intentional homicides fell 7 percent compared to the same period in 2025. The data are from the Ministry of Justice and Public Security (MJSP) and show a decrease in violent death records in the State.

The number of robberies increased from 29 in the first eight months of 2025 to 18 in the same period this year. Intentional killings, when there is intent to kill, have decreased from 784 to 729 cases, representing 55 fewer records.

The results continue the reduction observed in the previous two years. In 2024 and 2025, the Paraná had recorded the lowest annual numbers of intentional homicides and robberies in the historical series started in 2007.

Homicides and robberies show a decrease compared to 2018

When the comparison considers a longer period, the indicators show even greater reductions.

In the first eight months of 2018, the Paraná had accounted for 58 robberies. In 2026, there were 18 occurrences in the same range, which represents a decrease of approximately 69%.

In relation to intentional homicides, the number increased from 1,285 records, between January and August 2018, to 729 in the same period of this year. The difference corresponds to a reduction of approximately 43%.

The data cover the entire territory of Paraná and allow to follow the evolution of the records of these crimes over the last years.

Public Security Department highlights intelligence work

The Secretary of State for Public Security, coronel Hudson Teixeira, attributes the reduction of indicators to the strengthening of intelligence activities, the planning of police operations and the action of security forces.

According to the secretary, preventive work makes it possible to identify situations of risk and organize operations before the occurrence of certain crimes.

"Our police anticipate criminal action in the state through intelligence and planning for ostensible actions and operations. In this way, we were able to raise the safety standard offered to Paranaenses,” says Hudson Teixeira.

Investments in public safety exceed R$ 300 million

Among the measures announced by the Government of Paraná is a package of approximately R$ 334 million aimed at the modernization of the structure of the security forces.

The resources include investments in mobility, computer equipment, infrastructure works, armaments, rescue materials and integrated communication systems.

In September 2025, the State also announced the delivery of helicopters, rifles, vehicles and optical and tactical equipment, in a package of R$ 116 million aimed at strengthening the police structure.

Another highlight is the expansion of the air fleet used by the Paraná security forces.

In 2019, the state had two aircraft. Currently, there are 18 equipment available to security forces, an 800% growth in the period. The structure is used in police operations, rescues and incidents in different regions of the Paraná.
