The Bird Park, in Foz do Iguaçu, in the West of the Paraná, promotes this Wednesday (21) a special program to celebrate the Day of Awareness about Reptiles. From 9 am to 4 pm, visitors will be able to participate in an educational exhibition that seeks to demystify beliefs about these animals and highlight their importance for the preservation of biodiversity.

The activity will be carried out along the trail of the attraction and will present information on snakes, lizards, alligators, jabutis, cockroaches and turtles. The aim is to bring the public closer to these species, often associated with fear, and show how they contribute to the functioning of ecosystems.

According to the educational supervisor of Education for Conservation of the Bird Park, Luiza Araujo, the lack of information still influences the way part of the population sees reptiles.

“Reptiles still arouse a lot of fear in people, mainly because of misinformation that is transmitted over time. With this action, we want to show that these animals have fascinating characteristics and play very important roles in ecosystems,” he explains.

Exhibition aims to combat myths about reptiles

During the program, visitors will be able to learn about the characteristics and behaviors of different species, as well as clarify doubts about the risks that some of these animals may pose.

The proposal is to show that not all reptiles present danger to humans and that many play fundamental roles in nature, such as controlling populations of other animals and dispersing seeds.

The initiative also aims to draw attention to threats faced by these species, including deforestation, hunting, the destruction of natural habitats and the trafficking of wild animals.

According to information released by the Bird Park, Brazil has more than 800 species of recorded reptiles, of which approximately 500 are found in the Atlantic Forest.

Reptiles are critical to environmental balance

In addition to integrating food chains, reptiles contribute directly to the maintenance of biodiversity. Some species help to control small animal populations, while others participate in seed dispersal and serve as food for different groups of fauna.

The survival of these animals depends on specific environmental conditions, such as temperature, humidity, vegetation and food availability. Therefore, changes in habitats can compromise their populations and affect the balance of other organisms.

The exhibition seeks to broaden the understanding of these relationships and encourage attitudes of respect and conservation.

“Better knowing these species is a first step to change the way we relate to them and understand why they need to be conserved,” says Luiza Araujo.

Bird Park develops conservation actions of the Atlantic Forest

The program is part of the Education for Conservation initiatives carried out by the Birds Park, an institution that works in the protection of species of the Atlantic Forest and in the reception of rescued animals.

With more than 30 years of history, the space is one of the main tourist attractions of Foz do Iguaçu and welcomes visitors interested in knowing the Brazilian fauna and understanding the challenges faced in environmental conservation.

The institution highlights that educational activities are important to combat prejudice against certain species and show that the protection of biodiversity involves all groups of animals, including those that often arouse fear or are little known.
