Student Organization Questions Statements by the Legislator and Claims Students Were Embarrassed; Councilman Was Sought to Comment on the Case
The Central Directory of Students (DCE) of the State University of Ponta Grossa (UEPG) released a note of repudiation against the councillor Ricardo Zampieri (PL), after the publication of a video on the social networks of the parliamentary. The manifestation of the entity was released on Tuesday (20) and brought questions about the position of the councilor in relation to students of Ponta Grossa. According to the DCE, the statements made by Zampieri would have caused embarrassment and disrespect to members of the movimento estudantil. The organization also criticized what it considers an attempt to delegitimize political participation and the organization of university students.

The episode generated divergences between the student and parliamentary representation, involving discussions on freedom of expression, political action and autonomy of university entities.
DCE questions statements of the councilor
In the publicly released note, the DCE of UEPG states that public officials should maintain a position of respect in the face of different political positions. "It is unacceptable for a public official to use their visibility and social media to embarrass, disrespect and attack students," the statement said. The directory also expressed solidarity with the students who, according to its assessment, would have been affected by the statements of the councilor.

Entity defends autonomy of the movimento estudantil
Another point addressed by the DCE was the autonomy of student organizations. In the statement, the entity stressed that the choice of its representatives and the definition of their activities are the responsibility of the students themselves. “No political agent or external institution has the legitimacy to impose decisions on the direction of an entity that represents students,” the directory said.
The demonstration also reinforced the defense of public education, freedom of expression and democratic participation in the university environment. The DCE also stated that it will continue to develop its representation activities, regardless of criticism or political divergences.
