Police arrest grandfather for sexual abuse of a vulnerable victim, his granddaughter in Paraná
Grandfather is arrested for sexual abuse of a vulnerable victim in Cascavel against his 10-year-old granddaughter. Police rescued the child and her brother after reports of threats.
A 58-year-old man was arrested for raping a vulnerable man in Cascavel, in the west of Paraná, suspected of sexually abusing his 10-year-old granddaughter. The arrest took place on Saturday night (24), in the Interlagos neighborhood, during a joint action by the Civil Police (PCPR) and the Military Police (PMPR). The operation also ensured the rescue of the 15-year-old victim’s brother, who would be subjected to threats from family members.
According to the information released by PCPR, the child was allegedly subjected to recurrent sexual abuse by his grandfather. The most recent episode allegedly occurred on Friday (23), a day before the arrest of the investigator.
The case came to the attention of the authorities after the girl sought help from residents of the region. According to the police, she was found crying in the street, in the rain, and received reception from neighbors, to whom she was able to report the abuses she was suffering.
The victim’s brother was also threatened.
After learning about the complaint, Civil Police and Military Police teams went to the address of the family to verify the situation and protect the children.
During the care, police found that the 15-year-old victim’s brother was also being threatened by relatives. According to the investigation, the teenager had tried to defend his sister and, in the face of intimidation, sought shelter in the residence of neighbors.
The delegate Regis Francisco Palombo, of the Civil Police of Paraná, explained that the two brothers were removed from the family environment and referred to the police unit for the necessary procedures.
The Guardian Council was also set in motion to monitor the care, ensuring the referral of children to the protection network.
Justice orders pre-trial detention of suspect
The man was convicted in flagrante for the crime of rape of vulnerable in Cascavel. After the arrest, the Civil Police requested the conversion of the flagrante to pre-trial detention.
The request took into account the elements gathered in the investigation, in addition to information that pointed to a possible attempt to escape the suspect to Paraguay.
After the demonstration of the Public Prosecutor's Office of Paraná (MPPR), the Judiciary accepted the request and decreed the pre-trial detention of the investigated.
The PCPR also called for urgent protective measures for the two children, in order to prevent further threats, intimidation or situations of violence.
The suspect was referred to the prison system, where he remains at the disposal of the justice system. Investigations continue to clarify the circumstances of the facts and verify the possible participation or responsibility of other people.
How to report violence against children and adolescents
The Civil Police reinforces that reports of sexual violence and other forms of aggression against children and adolescents are fundamental to interrupt situations of risk and allow the action of the authorities.
The complaints can be made anonymously by telephone 197, of the Civil Police of the Paraná, or by 181, of the Disk-Denunciation.
In emergency situations or when violence is occurring, the guidance is to immediately call the Military Police on the 190 phone.
The identity of the victims must be preserved throughout the investigation and care process.
