The Civil Police of the Paraná (PCPR) expressed this Friday (4) about recent reports involving an alleged increase in crime in an area of the shopping center of Ponta Grossa, in the region of 'Paraguayzinho'. According to the corporation, the information passed on does not reflect the public safety indicators registered in the municipality.

While the PCPR focuses its activities mainly on the investigation and repression of crimes, the Military Police and the Municipal Guard maintain the preventive and ostensive patrol in the central area.

Thefts fell 34%, says Civil Police

According to the figures presented by the Civil Police, Ponta Grossa recorded a 34% reduction in thefts and 15% in thefts. The corporation maintains that the data demonstrate a retraction of property crimes and states that recent information on an alleged increase in crime in a certain region of the Center does not represent the general scenario of security actions carried out in the city.

According to PCPR, almost 150 police investigations have been instituted to investigate cases of theft and robbery. According to the institution, the investigations and integrated actions among the security bodies have contributed directly to the reduction of the indices.

More than two tons of copper wires seized

The Civil Police also cited as an example of recent actions an operation carried out jointly with the Military Police and the Receita Estadual to combat mainly the crime of reception. The offensive, carried out this week, ended with the seizure of more than two tons of copper wires.

The fight against reception is considered strategic by the police forces because it also seeks to reach the market that absorbs materials from theft and other property crimes.

The police reinforce the importance of the incident report

Despite challenging the perception of increased crimes, the Civil Police reinforced that victims must record all occurrences. According to the institution, the Occurrence Bulletin does not only serve to allow the opening of an individual investigation. The records also help security forces identify points with higher criminal incidence and direct patrol and preventive actions.

The guideline is that, in the face of an ongoing crime or soon after an occurrence, the population immediately triggers the Military Police or the Municipal Guard.

The PCPR also recommends that, whenever possible, the crime scene be preserved until the arrival of the responsible teams. The measure allows for the performance of expertise and the collection of traces, including fingerprints. Security camera images can also be decisive to identify suspects and assist in investigations.

Complaints can be made anonymously by phone 181. Situations requiring immediate police attention must be reported by 190.
