The heavy rain of the last few days has already caused 16 weather stations of the Paraná to exceed, in the first 12 days of October, the average volume expected for the entire month. Among them are Ponta Grossa and Telêmaco Borba.

According to Simepar, of the 47 stations with more than five years of operation, 16 have already beaten the historical average. The risk of storms is expected to continue until Wednesday (14) and only begin to decrease between Thursday (15) and Friday (16).

Ponta Grossa and Telêmaco Borba above average

In Ponta Grossa, the historical average for October is 167.1 mm. By day 12, 189.2 mm had been recorded. In the Telêmaco Borba, the average is 165.9 mm and the accumulated of the month has already reached 214.4 mm.

The holiday of Nossa Senhora Aparecida (12) was the most critical. The volumes exceeded 100 mm in a single day in Cascavel (111.2 mm), Cruzeiro do Iguaçu (127.4 mm) and Foz do Iguaçu (147.4 mm).

In addition to Ponta Grossa and Telêmaco Borba, they also exceeded the October average: Altônia, Assis Chateaubriand, Capanema, Cascavel, Curitiba, Cruzeiro do Iguaçu, Foz do Iguaçu, Guaíra, Laranjeiras do Sul, Loanda, Palotina, Paranavaí, Santa Helena and São Miguel do Iguaçu.

Wind gusts also caught attention on Monday (12). 61.2 km/h were recorded in Altônia, 65.9 km/h in Assis Chateaubriand, 84.6 km/h in Campo Mourão, 76 km/h in Cianorte, 67.7 km/h in Umuarama and 66.6 km/h in the airport of Foz do Iguaçu. In the early hours of Tuesday (13), the largest gust was in Cambará, with 65.2 km/h.

On Tuesday morning, until 8:30, the rain continued strong in the West, Northwest, North and North Pioneer, with more than 30 mm already accumulated in Antonina (30.2 mm), Assis Chateaubriand (34.6 mm), Cambará (46 mm), Jaguariaíva (43 mm), Paranavaí (42.2 mm) and Guaraqueçaba (36.2 mm).

Prediction

According to Simepar meteorologist Leonardo Furlan, the instabilities are caused by an extensive area of low pressure, disturbances in the medium and high levels of the atmosphere and flow of heat and humidity.

"These instability occur due to the presence of an extensive low pressure area, disturbances in the medium and high levels of the atmosphere and an extensive flow of heat and moisture that feeds and serves as fuel for the formation of storms throughout the Paraná," he explains.

On Tuesday, rain persists all day in the West, Northwest, North and North Pioneer, with risk of strong winds, lightning and hail. In the other regions, including Southwest, Center-South, East and Campos Gerais - where Ponta Grossa and Telêmaco Borba are located - the rain returns with the possibility of localized storms, but with less intensity.

On Wednesday, instability continues throughout the state, with greater intensity in the northern half, on the São Paulo.

The improvement begins on Thursday (15) and Friday (16), with the displacement of a frontal system through the ocean, bringing a colder and drier air mass. “The displacement of a front system across the ocean brings in its rear a colder and drier air mass, bringing relief in the instability and even the possibility of sunshine, especially in the westernmost regions of Paraná,” says Leonardo.

Even with the reduction, there are still forecasts of isolated and thunderstorms in the interior and storms located in the East, Campos Gerais and North Pioneer. The temperatures also begin to drop, with a feeling of cold especially on Friday.
