Ponta Grossa expands drainage in 15 city points
Urban drainage in Ponta Grossa advances with 15 fronts of new galleries and over 120 interventions carried out throughout 2026

The urban drainage in Ponta Grossa is being expanded with 15 fronts of deployment of new rain galleries in different neighborhoods and regions of the city. The interventions are mainly part of the paving works and aim to improve the drainage of rainwater, reduce flood points and prevent erosion in the roads.
Under the streets of Ponta Grossa there is an extensive structure of galleries responsible for receiving and conducting water from rainfall, springs and streams to rivers and streams. The system also receives the water collected by the drains installed in different points of the urban area.
With the advancement of new paving works, this structure also needs to be expanded. According to information released by the Municipality, there are currently 15 fronts involving new galleries already in execution or planned to begin in the coming months.
Works arrive in different neighborhoods
The new structures are being implemented in Jardim Paraíso, Mezzomo and Pontagrossense, in the Ouro Verde and Santa Tereza nuclei, in the Parque dos Pinheiros and in the Nery, Palmeirinha, Vilela, Dayse and São Gabriel villages.
There are also works in the Sabias Park and on the Buraco do Padre Road.
The new drainage services are also expected to start on the Jardim Europa and Núcleo Quero-Quero.
The construction of the galleries usually corresponds to the first stage of the paving works. Before the deployment of the new asphalt, the teams execute the necessary underground infrastructure to ensure proper water flow.
Galleries help prevent flooding and erosion
The urban drainage system in Ponta Grossa plays an important role mainly during periods of heavy rainfall.
In addition to removing the accumulated water from the street surface, the galleries help to reduce the formation of flood points and reduce the risk of erosion caused by the constant flow of water.
The structure also contributes to increase the durability of the new pavements, since excess water under or on the asphalt can accelerate the deterioration of the roads.
More than 120 interventions in 2026
In addition to the construction of new galleries, municipal teams also work on the maintenance, recovery and expansion of existing structures.
Some of these galleries have been in operation for several decades and need interventions to correct faults, increase flow capacity or replace damaged sections.
Over the course of 2026 alone, more than 120 existing galleries received corrective interventions, extensions or improvements in different Ponta Grossa regions.
The work takes place parallel to the installation of the new networks and integrates the urban infrastructure actions developed in the municipality.
