Ponta Grossa records wind gusts of almost 40 km/h amid storm warning
City is under orange alert, with forecast of heavy rain, strong winds and possibility of hail
Ponta Grossa recorded wind gusts of up to 39 km/h on Monday morning (21), according to data from Paraná’s Environmental Technology and Monitoring System (Simepar). The increase in wind intensity occurs on a storm warning day in the city and other regions of Paraná.
According to the monitoring of the weather station of Simepar in Ponta Grossa, at 11:00 the average wind speed was 17.6 km/h, with gusts of 30.2 km/h. In the 11:15 update, the gusts reached 39 km/h. At that time, the thermometers marked 27.4°C, with a thermal sensation of 29°C.

Monitoring also indicated no precipitation at the time of measurement.
Ponta Grossa is under orange storm alert
The National Meteorological Institute (Inmet) keeps Ponta Grossa under orange storm warning on Monday (21), valid until 23:59. The warning indicates the possibility of rain between 30 and 60 millimeters per hour or accumulated from 50 to 100 millimeters throughout the day. Intense winds are also expected, with speeds between 60 and 100 km/h, in addition to the possibility of hailfall.
According to Inmet, weather conditions can cause interruptions in the supply of electricity, fall of trees, damage to plantations and floods. It is important to note that speeds of 60 to 100 km/h represent the predicted wind intensity during storms, not the gusts already recorded in Ponta Grossa.
Cold front increases the risk of storms in the Paraná
The instability is associated with the advance of a cold front over the Southern Region, influenced by the action of an extratropical cyclone in the Atlantic Ocean. According to Inmet, the combination of weather systems favors the formation of storm clouds, the occurrence of intense rainfall and the increase in wind speed.
The forecast indicates that the conditions of instability are expected to continue throughout Monday, with the possibility of storms in different regions of the Paraná.

Given the risk of storms, the Inmet recommends that the population avoid staying under trees during wind gusts, due to the risk of falls and electric shocks. It is also recommended not to park vehicles near transmission towers and advertising signs.
