Ponta Grossa will have a digital encyclopedia to preserve its culture

The Cultural Encyclopedia of Ponta Grossa is being prepared by the Municipal Secretariat of Culture, with the aim of gathering, preserving and disseminating information about the history and cultural production of the municipality. The project provides for the creation of an online portal with entries dedicated to artists, personalities, cultural spaces, works of art, traditions and popular manifestations that are part of the identity of the city.

The initiative has the support of the History course of the State University of Ponta Grossa (UEPG) and aims to become a research tool and enhancement of the cultural memory of Ponta Grossa.

To develop the collection, a team of the Municipal Secretariat of Culture is carrying out an information gathering with artists and cultural producers. The work seeks to identify characters, spaces, creations and practices that have contributed or still contribute to the construction of the cultural identity of Ponta Grossa.

Encyclopedia will have four categories

The contents of the encyclopedia will be organized into four major areas, allowing the population to consult information on different aspects of local culture.

People: artists, producers and cultural personalities, including historical figures and names that continue to work in the municipality.

Places: theatres, museums, cultural centers and other physical spaces related to the production and preservation of culture.

Works of art: music, plays, paintings, books, monuments and other artistic productions.

Cultural expressions: customs, traditions, recipes, slang, popular practices and knowledge passed down through generations.

The proposal is to broaden the recognition of the cultural diversity of the city, registering both traditional manifestations and contemporary productions.

Project will give visibility to local artists

According to the municipal secretary of Culture, Alberto Portugal, the encyclopedia intends to offer the community a tool for consultation and knowledge about the cultural heritage and artistic production of Ponta Grossa.

In addition to preserving historical information, the portal should function as a showcase for artists, producers and other cultural agents, allowing their trajectories and productions to have greater visibility.

The expectation is that the platform will also contribute to academic research, school activities and initiatives aimed at enhancing the regional culture.

New platform will complement cultural heritage system

The Cultural Encyclopedia of Ponta Grossa will be complementary to the Cultural Heritage Information System of Ponta Grossa (SIPC), already used by the municipality.

While SIPC concentrates information related to cultural heritage, the new platform will have a broader approach, contemplating different artistic manifestations, characters and elements of everyday life that help to tell the history of the city.

With access exclusively through the internet, the encyclopedia aims to facilitate public consultation and gather, in a single digital environment, information that contributes to the preservation of collective memory.

The City Hall has not yet announced a date for the official launch of the platform. The project remains in the collection and organization phase of the information that will make up the collection.

The initiative represents another step towards documenting the cultural diversity of Ponta Grossa and ensuring that stories, traditions and artistic productions are known to the next generations.
